Hello gents!

I had a fellow collector swing by today to meet me and pick up a boxed set he won from me. He brought a 50 page pad of character sheets, but they were unfamiliar. They did say Advanced D&D, and they had pretty standard characteristics. Here are the things that stood out:

Money was listed as t.p., p.p., g.p., s.p., e.p., c.p., b.p.
The stats page had "color o! hair" and "color o! eyes" ( no typo there)
There were sections for "concealed equipment" and "back protection"

I'm awaiting a scan, but if anyone can guess what they are before the scan, they will get the Non-Award. Oh, also, it DID have the Comeliness stat, so I am assuming it wasn't the red-covered character sheets. It is possible they had a cover sheet at one time, I'm not sure.

That's interesting, Frank:  bp = bronze pieces, which are mentioned in WG4 as well as in Gygax's Gord novels.  I'm not familiar with tps, although Lankhmar had some coins valued higher than pps.  Here's a link to find the Gord Greyhawk coinage:  http://home.comcast.net/~chris.s/gordmisc.html#currency

Interesting.  Given the "o!" and inclusion of Comeliness, I would guess that these were homebrew sheets.   (That reminds me that I should scan and post mine, sometime ;) ).

I don't recall ever seeing sheets (other than my aforementioned homebrew ones) that listed Comeliness as a stat.  Given that as well as the possible overlap with coins above, I wonder if they were playing in Greyhawk, perhaps....

The official sheets for late 1E (product REF2) have it.  Obviously not what these are, but there's one instance.

The Comeliness stat makes me think it was post-UA. Once Grey sends me a scan I'll try and post it. He has a really nice collection, BTW. It's always nice to meet someone as enthusiastic as we are about RPG stuff.

Hey Frank I took the character sheets out of the plastic sleeve they were in and it turns out I had put a piece of cardboard as a backer the true back is a glossy grey on reverse and white on inside it also has a identical one separating the pad(but not separating the binding or glued edge) at page 25. so there are 50 sheets total but maybe the pad was larger at one time??

I think it is possible it had a cover sheet, Grey.
Here is the scan, guys. There is a prize of $200 Vulcan dollars to whomever figures out the Riddle of the Sheets. Hm, that sounds pornographic........

I would have to say by looking at the binding which is really a glue that there was definitley a cover
Sheet. The other odd thing is there is listed a place for bp which is brass or bronze pieces and tp?Ill keep looking hopefully someone reconizes

t.p. = titanium piece (?). I have seen used as tin piece before, but since the coins are listed in value order, I will stick with Titanium.

Notice also the %detect illusion and %detect magic in the spells section. Do UA barbarians have that ability? I just can't remember.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Considering the era those would have to be from... they're pretty damn ugly.

I think the 'o!' thing is nothing. Zooming in, it looks like the 'f' in 'Proficiencies', but underlined.

T.P. could be total pieces; for encumbrance purposes, maybe? The value order thing doesn't fly since e.p. is too low.

'Back protection'? That's nutty.

I don't know...those character drawings look very Judges Guild to me...but the Comeliness thing kinda throws that off...

It surely is a mystery!  8)

Homebrew I betcha. (listening to Fibber McGee at the moment  :D )

Top 2 illus from Frank's basic set. Dunno about the one on the bottom.

Back Protection, Detect Magic & Illusion are indeed barbarian abilities.

So at least '85-ish.

The mini-PC drawings are definitely TSR originated art:  the female is a Cleric IIRC, and the male a barbarian or fighter, perhaps.  I can remember a color version of the female in particular, perhaps from ads or a 1:1/CYOA book, or one of the BECMI sets (although B&W in them)??

Well, the upper right illustration is based on Easley's fighter which appears on page 28 of the Mentzer Basic Players Manual.  The left illustration is the cleric, page 24.  The bottom right is the ogre from page 44.

Comeliness is misspelled, as is Constitution.  I'm not sure of the font (Identifont suggested Victorian but that's not quite correct) but the collapsed small f is carried through the doc.

If forced to guess, I would say it was made on a circa 1987 computer like an Amiga or Atari ST; either homebrew or sold by someone at cons. :)

A place to check for further font pursuit:

It looks much better and is more clear in person. it looks homemade in scan but in person it does not. It looks too well done to be homebrew (just my opinion)hoping someday someone will have seen or comes across another. definitely a puzzle. I really do appreciate you guys looking in to it thanks for investing your time and intellect !best wishes

I think if it was a homebrew it would be looseleaf pages, not glued. Man, if it had a cover sheet this would be easy........
