WotC finds yet another way to suck more money out of me via reprints. Not thrilled with the 4e art, but it is what it is.

Ok, 1st edition reprints, nifty, not neccessarily, but maybe there is some altruism involved.

2nd edition reprints ... Whatever. I'll be ambivelant. Maybe there is a small segment that wasn't covered in the 1st edition stuff.

This? Blatant cash grab. (If anyone from WOTC is offended by this, good). What, you can't sell your own ideas or they don't pull revenue? Try an idea that doesn't suck.

I hate myself even more because I'll buy one. I feel dirty.

I like the idea of it. I'm sure once November rolls around the concept will have changed quite a bit. And although I don't despise the new art I just wish they would use the original art and textured parchment style. And I hope to hell they don't use dice that look like that.

For me, it's cheaper to buy that then the originals. I appreciate the history of the old, but if it's content I want, I'd go this way..

Hmmm... it seems to me that WOTC have been looking (jealously) at the high-end collectors editions for current roleplaying games that have been coming out; especially recently via both kickstarter and European games companies. Looking at this it reminds me of a stretch goal for a kickstarter box-set, or perhaps the recent collectors Call of Cthulhu sets that come boxed in "aged" wooden crates or trunks.

Interestingly, if they are venturing in to the high-end rpg market they have chosen to appeal first to collectors rather than players of their core game. maybe I am wrong here but there isn't an equivalent collectible box set for their new version of D&D?

But hey, if you are going to instigate a cash grab, this is the way to go. Pander to collectors and even the merely curious and you will rake in the bucks.

Guys, they ARE a company. Companies try to earn cash. You really can't accuse them of a "cash grab".
As far as reprinting the white box, brilliant business move. They should have priced it at $99.99; I think the $150 price tag will lose them a lot of sales.
In the past, I would have railed about reprinting devaluating the original, but I don't think that is true. If someone buys the new white box, they will possibly start looking to buy collectables like Tamo, DG and whatnot, and that will keep the prices at a good level. It's like selling crack: give the customer a little taste cheap, get them hooked, then you have a repeat customer.
In other words, collectors are like crack addicts............

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

The price of the 1st 3 books dropped lie a stone here within a year. I got all 3, new for around £40 inc postage. This set could do the same. Tbh, I'm considering it as a future buy, doubly so if I pick up decent originals as planned, because it'll mean the originals stay decent and unused, when all I want to do is read and preserve them.
I'd love an original set for the historical value, but this will be a good addition for what I want.

$99 would be right if it had just what was in the original White Box. Since it has the other supplements the price doesn't seem that bad. I'm glad they are doing it that way instead of charging $15 or $20 for each supplement separately.

If I was WoTC I'd be reprinting every edition and flooding out Pathfinder like a bad habit. $$$$$$$

Especially since I've heard that 5th Edition WILL NOT be ready for Gencon of this year...

I think I'll be picking up one of these myself...

damnit it's not going to be out until November...
