Not a collecting post, but one OD&D fans will enjoy I hope

The Grognard Games video channel is pleased to be able to announce a series of conversations with the very charming, handsome and charismatic Rob Kuntz for your participation and viewing pleasure.

After numerous discussions on the phone it became very apparent that a one or two hour interview simply wouldn't do justice to the variety of topics that we wanted to discuss together, so we will be running a series of conversations ranging from OD&D & play test history to ideas of creativity and inspiration and a great deal more as the series develops

I wanted to make a brief comment, however, on something that Rob brought up a lot - 'open models." Gygax, Kuntz and others obviously have a great imagination and are great storytellers - but a lot of other people are not. Many of our ideas are poor. Finding a good DM can be difficult. It seems open models can only go so far. D&D rose to prominence, it seems, because TSR was selling a service - imagination, or tools to unlock our own imagination. The more people TSR wanted to reach, it seems, the more it was necessary for the open model to transition more into a closed model. Today, even someone without any storytelling skills can DM semi-effectively because the rules are so regimented.

Of course, it may well be the closed models have become a crutch, and the hobby needs a light push in the other direction. Maybe that was ultimately Rob's point.
