Howdy all, prb you have already discussed this topic but i'd like to have a "deep dive" into this game which shoudl deserve more attention (imho); first i'd like to have confirmation about printing/edition chrono... any of the following versions should have the same contents to my knowledge.

Under Guidon games:

1) woodgrain box (flip-top version) with no labels

2) woodgrain box (D&D-like) with labels

3) black boxed set

...then under TSR:

4) white boxed set (GK logo)

5) white boxed set (lizardman logo) - to be confirmed, i dont remember having seen one of them...

6) white boxed set (wizard logo)

...do i miss any other version/edition?

For Guidon, the black box sets came before woodgrains. There are a few versions of this:

Guidon Black Box:
1) there are some errors in the books
2) comes with errata sheets
* contents are otherwise the same
3) errata fixed in the books

For the woodgrains, I believe early TSR versions contained a mix of the Guidon & TSR books until stock ran out, then only TSR books, etc. I don't recall seeing sets with mixed TSR logos (such as lizardman and wizard logos).

TSR had the woodgrain sets but early ones had some Guidon books inside.

I have what I thought was one of each:

Woodgrain Tractics with TSR box and two of the books are Guidon and one is TSR

White boxset and it is all TSR books

The black set is all Guidon books

I have never seen the fliptop one

You re right: i have a flip-top box and it is not like a woody...

So, main message is that the black box comes before the flip top one? Weird as i tought the other way round... My main assumption is that the flip top i have comes wtih no labels and this makes me assume being the earliest version.

Personally I don't think the flip-top box is legit - I think it was something that was added by someone else (not Guidon). The box seems to be somewhat different from all the other boxes for Guidon games and the alternative version of Guidon stuff was to come in ziplock bags. They would often give you the sticker so you could then put it on your own box.

I think whoever had the flip top, lost their box and replaced it - again its just a theory.

I think the Black boxes come first but there are at least 2 printings of the Guidon books (with and without errata corrections).

Iirc i have both versions: the woody flip-top and the black box guidon... Back from holidays i will pull them out from the shelves and check...

Btw: proposal @ Foul - why dont we organize a non dnd page with some refs to other TSR games? I would limit to this scope an additional and useful webpage...

The page setup, and the overall subweb administration, is the hard part. I don't have the free time any more to devote to such an endeavor -- it take a lot of time, and a lot of work. You can always start a thread and collect info there, but taking it to the next level is a big step.
