One of the joys of working with Arneson's Corner of the Table is that few issues have any sort of explicit dating, and the volume numbers are sometimes repeated in different years. For the most part, these have to be dated based on internal evidence and the occasion off-hand date given in the middle. My sequence of these looks a bit different from what I'm seeing up on eBay.

I believe these four issues (from Volume 4) are from 1972, not 1975:

For example, the first of them has on its cover (you would be able to see it on eBay if it were just a little larger) the following:

Anyway, they still full of awesome stuff, and are probably more awesome for being from 1972. It sort of follows as well, as issues published in 1971 were in Vol. 3 (that issue is correct on eBay now), and at the end of Vol. 4 (at the end of 1972) the magazine went on hiatus. AFAIK nothing in any of the post-1972 issues gives a Volume number, so it's a bit speculative to assign the 1975 issue to Volume 5, but it's in keeping with the spirit.

So what is going on with this auction?

Looking at the bid history of Domesday Book #5, the third highest bidder put in a bid of $997.97. In the others his bid was $97.97. Did he fat-finger the bid? Does this expose the top bid of the high bidder?

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what will these go for? $18,000 is the top number listed here DB #2. I would have guessed a couple of orders of magnitude less than that, but that number has already been breached.

Guesses?

...maybe i am wrong but i remember to have read here that a couple of gencon ago a domesday book went for 13k bucks... or was it 17k? is that correct?

18k, private sale (but which finalized during GenCon). First known discovery of a copy of Domesday 2.

hi. I'm the person who purchased the other 5. It's complicated why I bid a lower value on #10. I was totaling up how high I had been bid up on the first three and was trying to figure out how much I wanted to spend in total. I knew that I still really wanted #13, so was planning on sacrificing 10 & 12. Then, when you won 10, I decided I might have just blown my only chance to get #10 for the next 20+ years and that convinced me to go ahead and get 12 as well. Probably not the best logic or decision making process, but I never claimed to be smart

There are moments when I'm very happy to have boundaries on what I collect!

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games
