Might as well get the thread started and let the pimping begin....

Welcome to the North Texas RPG Convention! The NTRPG Con focuses on old-school Dungeons & Dragons gaming (OD&D, 1E, 2E, or Basic/Expert) as well as any pre-1999 type of RPG produced by the classic gaming companies of the 70s and 80s (TSR, Chaosium, FGU, FASA, GDW, etc). We also support retro-clone or simulacrum type gaming that copies the old style of RPGs (Swords & Wizardry, Castles & Crusades, and others). ANY RPG games are welcome at the Con, even Pathfinder, or something we haven't even heard of, just be sure you can fill a table with 5-6 people before you ask to have it added to the schedule...

Our 5th annual convention dates are: Thursday June 6, 2013 @ 1300 until Sunday June 9, 2013 @ 1800

Please look around, read up and register if you plan to attend. You must pay for one day or a weekend before you are able to register for a game. (though game registration doesn't open until midnight April 15th, 2013... midnight is the beginning of the day, not the end)

If you want to sign up to run a game, please contact the con event coordinator at mikebadolato@ntrpgcon.com

The Con will be held at our new location, DFW Airport Marriot South: 4151 Centreport Boulevard, Fort Worth, Texas 76155 (dfwairportmarriott.com). It's just south of the airport and really ought to carry an Arlington/Grand Prairie address, but Forth Worth has a long "finger" that spans over into the area. (it's only about 3 miles east of the last year's hotel) We have a special rate for con attendees that is in effect until May 15th, 2013 so don't delay in getting your reservations. The direct link for reservations at the Con rate is posted in the forums.

We have 16 confirmed guests (and waiting on responses from others) attending in 2013: (Timothy Kask, James M. Ward, David 'Zeb' Cook, Dr. Dennis Sustare, Jennell Jaquays, Erol Otus, Steve Winter, Steve Marsh, Doug Kovacs, Jeff Dee, Robert Kuntz, Diesel LaForce, Peter Kerestan, Rick Loomis, Ken St. Andre, Frank Mentzer ). The lineup includes several of the more important figures in the history of RPGs as a whole and Dungeons & Dragons in particular. As always, the guests are completely accessible to all attendees, and never charge for signatures.  Most of the special guests run games, and many also play in the games alongside attendees!

Gaming Events:  As in year's past, we expect our lineup to include many types of Dungeons & Dragons (OD&D or White Box, Basic D&D, AD&D 1E and 2E, and even a game or two of 3.5 and Pathfinder).  Some games in year's past have included Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu, Gamma World, Star Frontiers, Boot Hill, GURPS, Swords & Wizardry, and others.  The convention concentrates on Role Playing over other forms of gaming (board, card, miniature) but we do have the occasional specially scheduled non-RPG game.  The Circus Maximus tournament will now be in it's 4th year, we are planning on Allan Grohe and his Aliens miniature game, and for the 3rd year in a row Leadjunkie (Marshal Mahurin) will bring a ton of metal minis to run special Chainmail scenarios.

Charity Game:  More details will follow, but for the 3rd year in a row we will have a Charity Game. This game has a special DM (so far, we have had Jon Hershberger and Doug Rhea), and features several of the special guests playing characters.  One or two spots will be auctioned off for the game to attendees,  with all the money going to the children's charity Variety Texas.

Non-Gaming Events: These include the entirely seat of the pants pre-convention dinner and post-convention dinner;  the Special Guest Luncheon on Thursday; the raffle/auction; and various seminars including the very popular Artist Panel.

Sponsorships and Advertising:  See the Convention page for more details, but for the first year ever we are offering Full and Limited Sponsorships for the con and various events.  Full Sponsorships are $200, while Limited Sponsorships vary in price (as low as $50 in some places).  Both offer advertising opportunities and help support the convention.  Advertising rates for the program are also at the convention site and include full page, half page, and premiums for the back cover.

I'll be adding to this as time goes on....

Mike B.

I'll slowly be adding info on the con to this thread that was on the old thread as time permits.

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-in ... iott-south

Our new location is a step up in quality and size, yet the hotel is very affordable.  The DFW Marriott South is centrally located right between Fort Worth and Dallas, and is right outside of DFW airport. It is probably only a 15-20 minute drive from Love Field in Dallas.  For food and beverages the hotel is fully equipped with a restaurant, a bar,  and morning coffee, but there are also many places to eat within walking distance from the hotel. These include Jimmy Johns, Double Daves Pizza, McDonalds, Buffalo Cantina, Simply Burgers, Jack in the Box, Pizza Hut, Jersey Mikes, Midori Sushi, Hot Bowl Cafe,  Starbucks, Wendys, and more. Many of these (including Jack in the Box and McDonalds) are open 24 hours for your late night dining pleasure.

The room rate is normally $130 a night, but the convention rate is $105, book as early as you can and mention the convention to get the special rate.  The convention space is triple the space of last year, and we will also have two board rooms for games.  All the extra room means we will have plenty of space to stretch out, and also more tables for open gaming, and the vendors tables will not be as close to the actual gaming as in year's past.

The hotel has an indoor pool, workout center, and a daily buffet that is $10 and includes a nice variety of food.  The rooms are very nice and can easily accommodate two people. There is an airport shuttle for DFW airport.

Got a map yet, Mike?  I'm curious about the locations for gaming vs. the vendor tables.

That is a map of the main ballroom, you can click it to blow it up. The con will be in Sections III and IV, with the seminars/panels in Section V.  The Centreport room (we only have this Saturday) will have the art panel. Doug and I have only been inside once, but what it will look like is:

Four special guest tables/areas outside the door leading into Section III, two on each side of the door;

The registration table to the right of the entrance;

The vendor tables lined up along the wall of Section III and curving around to lead to Section IV;

Most of the game tables set up in Section IV.

The door to Section IV will be locked during the con to create only one entrance/exit, and to funnel traffic past the vendor's tables.

An alternative is to have all the vendor's tables lined up along the top wall on the map facing the gaming area, but that would not be funneling the traffic.

As we check out the ballroom more we'll better be able to work out set-up.

We'll throw you both right in to one of Jim Ward's games, so you can celebrate by dying horribly after your 25 year sabbatical!

Two of the six Full Sponsorships have already been taken, by Centerstage Miniatures and Lamentations of the Flame Princess. Only four remaining sponsorships are available.  These seem to be going fast, if you are interested you need to make a decision quickly!

I'll put in on my calendar, but if I know work, they'll schedule a "kickoff" at that time and I'll be stranded somewhere less interesting.

Allan

I'll get a better map made up with table layouts... Mike is close, but not quite

We have the entire ballroom which will be sectioned off into the 6 areas you see.

Section I with an entrance from the left is where Bad Mikes game will be for instance, section II above it will be used as well as sections V and VI. Section V as Mike mentioned will have the Charity Game and the Friday Sessions, where as the Artist Panel will be in the Centerport room. We also have 2 boardrooms for those games like Bill Barsh on Sat night and the K&K Game Social. Most likely, the Mithrus Tower game will run in Section VI since we are going to allow Frog God Games to setup their vendor table in the room where they run the game all 6 sessions (boardroom might work, but I'd rather they have the needed space for gaming and vendor tables/shelves since they are the largest vendor and do bring the entire crew along)

Sections III and IV will be the "Main Gaming" area, but the wall will be pulled about 2/3 to 3/4 top to bottom to help section and control sound.

Both doors from the the bottom into section III and IV will be open and the registration desk & BadMike books will be in the recessed area between the 2 doors.

Vendor tables will be lined up starting to the left of the door into section III and to the right of the door into section IV and be spaced appropriately around the room along the outside walls as has been in past Cons.

We may have more space for more vendors, but for now I am limiting it to 8 until we make another trip to the hotel to do some layout with tables to be sure.

And as Mike said, the Special Guest tables will be outside the 2 bottom doors, 1 to the left, 2 between the doors, 1 to the right...

I have a make shift ASCII room layout for now, will work on a better graphic copy later

Ok, that setup makes sense, for some reason I thought we only had sections 3, 4, 5 & 6 and not sections 1 and 2.

I don't like both doors open into the area, too many entrances to cover, but we could always have someone sitting by the door checking badges.

FGG inside a room dedicated to Mythrus Tower makes sense.  The board rooms can be used for specific games as stated and for special guests that don't like extra noise (Tim Kask, Dennis Sustare, Rob Kuntz) while we can be a little more inventive with the sectioned areas.

We really need to see the ballroom again with the areas sectioned off, and decide where to hold the raffle/auction  (which Section or Sections). It needs to be at least as big as the area we used last year, preferably much bigger.

The Raffle/Auction will be held in Centerpoint after the Artist Panel. It should hold about 80 people and we weren't even near that many at the auction this year.

If for some reason we think we need more room, we can easily decide to run the raffle/auction in either III or VI of the ballroom, either side holds 300

No posts since August !!!

What is Mike doing !!!

I have all the current submitted games posted in the Game Grid and the registration page.

I f you plan on coming to the Con and want to run a game, please get registered for the Con and submit your game details.

Also, we have Sponsorships still available of various types, all are listed on the site. If you know of someone or business that wants to support the Con, they can get some advertising for a decent price.

Booking plane tickets for the Special Guests next week... so it will be upon us before we know it !

We have 16 confirmed guests (and waiting on responses from others) attending in 2013: (Timothy Kask, James M. Ward, David 'Zeb' Cook, Dr. Dennis Sustare, Jennell Jaquays, Erol Otus, Steve Winter, Steve Marsh, Jason Braun, Jeff Dee, Robert Kuntz, Diesel LaForce, Peter Kerestan, Rick Loomis, Ken St. Andre, Frank Mentzer ). The lineup includes several of the more important figures in the history of RPGs as a whole and Dungeons & Dragons in particular.

We currently have 50 game event slots covering 20 different games (I am expecting to see about 6~8 more game types shortly)

So a great place to come and play a ton of old games

Plenty of sponsorships still available for NTRPG con!

We have three "Full" sponsorships still available for $200 each (only six in all); The first three went to Lamentations of the Flame Princess RPGs, Center Stage Miniatures, and Noble Knight Games.

Other sponsorships range from $50 to $150 and include sponsoring the Charity Game, Artist Panel, Auction Raffle, several Serving Wench shifts (except for Saturday night), and the Table Maps that will be on each gaming table. If you have banners or displays you'll be allowed to put them up for the various events you sponsor, and we can discuss other ideas.

Check out the con page to see what is included in the various sponsorships, but they are especially nice if you have a product, company, or kickstarter you want to advertise...not to mention if you would just like to help out the con. If you want to sponsor an event let us know and we can give you ideas for how to promote your product/company at the con. For example, this year the serving wench(s) will wear t-shirts with your company/product/kickstarter name during the entire shift you pay for, and I will be working with a friend in the promotion business to find ladies that work for a promotional company that does events at Texas Stadium and other local venues. The ladies are all gorgeous and experienced!

Also note that all the advertising in the program is still available. This year I am going to try to get Doug to print more copies than in year's past so we can include them with mailings also.
