Hello folks:

I am excited to be able to announce that Wizards of the Coast will be donating 100 lots of vintage TSR era items for a special section of the Gen Con charity auction. The proceeds from these lots will benefit the Gygax Memorial Fund.

The Charity Auction section of the below link has a list of the lots which will be included.
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Feature.aspx ... gencon2012

I put the lots together myself. Unfortunately not much from the ultra rare category but a nice variety of fun curio items and pieces in beautiful condition. If you are a factory shrink wrap aficionado this is the auction for you.

And yes Zenopus, I made sure to include a set of the AD&D costumes

The additional bonus for me is I get to attend Gen Con this year. I look forward to meeting more of my fellow collectors/historians.

Cheers,
Curt

Curt,

It looks like you have quite a few items that will bring a lot of interest. It all depends on condition and what all is included in the lots themselves. Don't sell them short though. Good call and thanks for donating the proceeds to the Gygax Memorial Fund.

The downloadable file is in an xlsx format, which I cannot open with excel. Do I need an 2007 version (or later) of excel?

If you are using Excel 2000, 2003 or Excel XP and you try to open an .xlsx file it prompts you to download a compatibility pack from Microsoft.  If it doesnt you can download it here:

I had success on my Mac using the system's Numbers program. If you have another spreadsheet-type program, try that.

I'm particularly curious about these three items:

- AD&D The Complete Starter Set (Yellow Box)        TSR         Role-playing Game
- Fanzine Lot                Magazine/Periodical
- AD&D World of Greyhawk Lot        TSR         Role-playing Game

In particular, a) what's a Yellow Box AD&D set??, and b) what items are in the fanzines and GH lots?  I also assume that the two Grenadier minis lots simply contain all of the Grenadier large and small boxed sets?

Here is a link to the complete starter set.
http://tsrinfo.net/archive/dd1/starter.htm
Not particularly rare but the box is huge. I have found that it is hard to find in good condition. This copy is NM in shrink.

The Fanzine Lot is Alarums & Excursions #5, #6, #14 & The Wild Hunt #18

The Greyhawk lot is the World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting Box, Greyhawk Wars, WGA1 Falcon's Revenge, WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins, WGR3 Rary the Traitor. Also not particularly rare but all NM in shrink.

The Grenadier small box full set is all 13 boxes NM in shrink.
The Grenadier large box lot is five boxes - Explorers, Monsters, Dragon's Lair, Action Art Monsters, Action Art Fantasy Fiends. All NM in shrink.

Cheers,
Curt

>Dungeon! Board Game
bigbox I presume?

Purple box (vertical) w/ wizard logo. shrink

>Snit's Revenge + minis
Aha, the minis! htf

1st print purple box cover + Three of the four mini blister packs. The blister packs are somewhat worn. The card stock seems thin compared to other blisters (These are packed full of lead goodness).

>TSR Hex Pad, Hex Book & Hexagonal Mapping Booklet

The hex pad is the later printing with the large "HEX PAD" printed on the front. They are all NM in shrink.

>AD&D LJN Action Figures
yawn, but...

The LJN Action Figures lot is Strongheart & Kelek (both on card). The more interesting LJN items I feel are the large Good & Evil sets, also on card.

AD&D Bendy Toys Full Set
FULL SET of Bendys? Egad. Very rare

All six figures on card. Carrion Crawler, Chimera, Grell, Hydra, Neo-Otyguh, Roper. Some card windows beginning to yellow.

Cheers,
Curt

Large lot of Japanese Language 1st Ed. D&D        TSR         Role-playing Game

This is one of my personal favorites  :D
23 pieces including The Master Set box, B2, B6, B8, CM3, GAZ1, GAZ2, M1, X8, XS2, AC4, AC7, AJC1~10, AJC13. All in original shrink-wrap with the exception of three items which were never put into shrink. The copy of B2 appears to be an earlier printing than the image recorded on the Acaeum.

If anyone has any more questions let me know.

I am really looking forward to this. I will probably wind up camping in the auction room most of the weekend.

There are a few exceptions but generally all the items which were originally factory shrink wrapped are in shrink. The exceptions came up when I was completing a set or a big lot and for some reason some of the pieces were out of shrink; I'm looking at you Top Secret TS008 Seventh Seal  .

I have made specific note on any of the pieces not being in original shrink wrap on the auction details.

Curt, as the guy who'll be auctioneer for at least half this stuff, I must comment.

You're being extraordinarily helpful on all this.
And appropriately so; Acaeum members are the core market for D&D collectibles.

To be blunt just for a moment, we are definitely not accustomed to such outstanding PR from your employer.
I hope the folks upstairs become aware of your 'above and beyond' efforts in this regard.
Perhaps one result may be a greater awareness of the importance of the hobby aftermarket.
