Clang,
Pretty much plays like the other TSR microgames. Ok, but nothing really special. Vampyre tends to go a bit higher than some of the other microgames (TSR), though The Alamo is generally the most expensive. You can expect to pay around $10-18 for one; unpunched is typically $15-22. If it is punched, make sure the dice are included. Often, these games are missing the dice (just two six-sided). It comes with two dice (I just checked).
For higher quality microgames, look at those produced by Task Force Games and Metagaming. The quality of game is significantly higher than any of those produced (overall) than the TSR microgames.
Interestingly, the production of TSR's microgames was a fore warning of TSR's: "Hey, look over there, we better copy that idea and come up short..." business strategy.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Howdy,

This game was designed out-of-house by Phillip Shreffler and was developed by Mike Price (IIRC) at TSR.

My older children, gaming group, and I have played this many times. There are parts where players become nosferatu, werewolves, or possessed by demons and attack other player-vampire hunters. That is quite funny as converted player-hunters gleefully act as spoilsports after they have already lost. It is also a bit of a treasure hunt, as vampire hunters travel around the Transylvania countryside looking for Dracula's coffins, which they really enjoy. The various locations have stacks of chits with encounters, weapons of good, etc. that player must flip over to see what they reveal. That is the basic game, whomever gets to three coffins.

The advanced game has you flip the map over to see Castle Dracula laid out as a gameboard. Now the object is to find Dracula in his castle. Again the chits are flipped over and placed in each room of the place. There is a clock that determines if it is night or day. During the day, vampire hunters have an advantage, at night they are at normal combat, and at midnight the entire place resets (or re-spawns) and randomizes the locations of traps and encounters. Whomever kills Dracula wins.

I find the game to be quite fun, especially with three or more vampire hunter-players.

The game is usually in the $20 dollar range but, sell it before Halloween and it will be worth $30-40!

Paul

There is a copy at a local used book store with a price of 25.99, and I am thinking of picking it up. Of all these old TSR games, this one seems the most interesting to me. The bad thing is it is an unplayed copy, and I am not sure I could bring myself to play it. It would be nice if WotC would release pdfs of these old games.
