Is this a separate printing that was recalled?

That type of bindery defect happens often enough that I'd wager that has happened to a copy or two of every book.  It's interesting if you find that sort of defect noteworthy.  Printing errors generally seem to be of interest in stamps and coins, but less so in comics and RPGs.  General books are variable - if the book is already valuable, then people care, otherwise not so much.

Nope. It's printed and bound at the same time as the rest of the print run. It's merely human or machine error which happens every now and then. I came across a 2E hardback where the endpages (which had product advertising) were stuck in upside down.  

This is a different thing from a whole shipment of DMGs being recalled and rebound.

But then, I'm also of the opinion that books with the only diistinguishing characteristics from others being different flyleaf colors or perfed survey forms should not be listed as a variant print. A mention on the printing blurb would be sufficient to note variance due to overruns or similar phenomena. *shrugs*
