The US stape module is the same width as A4 but slightly smaller in height. I tend to buy A4 whenever I can, so that I can use the same bags for UK magazines like White Dwarf/Imagine, and things like Tortured Souls and the Gamemaster Publictions stuff. To my mind, better to have the extra half inch of polythene to fold down the back than not enough.
You can also fit digect sized stuff in sideways and the size again is just right, and you can then either wrap the remained over or trim it and tape it behind. Mayeb buy your first pack of 100 and play around with them and see what works for you.
Boxed sets, and oversized things with maps sicking out the side (Wraith Overlord, Starstone, etc) will always require careful packaging.
