Forget the price.... even though that seems way too high even if this was for the much harder to find DA-2 instead of the very common DA-1.




While I happen to think that the two Baldurs Gate (Dark Alliance) video games are two of the best fantasy RPGs (for 2 players) ever created for any game system this seems a bit over the top even to me.

Consider yourself lucky if you only collect RPG's and not video games too.  As I am also a video game collector I find it much, much harder to find complete video games on Ebay (or anywhere else) for a good price than I do RPG's.  Most of them are considerably more expensive, and the competition is much worse.  There are probably a thousand video game collectors for every RPG collector (at least it seems that way).  And in the last few years some of these video game dealers have been getting their sealed games graded just like comic books and toys.  It's ridiculous but there are some people that actually buy them.  Even sealed, non-graded games go for a premium.  And rarely do you find video games being sold in auction format anymore.  Most sellers are using BIN's exclusively....a lot of which are much higher prices than what you would pay for in an auction.

Never played either of the Baldur's Gate games that were put out exclusively for the consoles.  I read they were terrible compared to the PC games.

Thanks god nobody collects (or really even reads) books any more (at least when I'm buying rather than selling them ). Except for really rare stuff, you can get good deals nowadays.

But video games, even (or maybe especially?) old PC games, forget about it. I've been looking to pick up some of the old Ultima (Lord British) PC games in original boxes for a decade now, and whenever I think to look they're $60 and up in the right condition.

$199 for a console game? You gotta be friggin' kidding! I thought it was dumb when I first saw comic books encased in carbonite (I don't read them, so it didn't really "bother" me), but video games? Really?

I need to go take a module out of shrinkwrap, and break the binding reading a collectible hardcover...

Me too. I'm getting to the point where I have trouble justifying having copies I don't use for play, even. Four days ago, my 8-year-old came to me and asked if he could use my Basic and Expert sets (I only have one of each) to learn how to play on his own. I hesitated for a moment, thought "Why the hell not?" and told him to have at it. He and his younger brother have gotten more enjoyment out of those box sets in the last few days than I've extracted from them in two decades.

My grankids grew up playing games on the the PS1 and PS2 consoles and we have always had DA1 and DA2, both of which we have worn out.


My first impulse was to search the local video game stores for used copies.


I eventually located ONE copy for sale.... $55 used and the disc looked bad (on the play side) with lots of scratches, etc. and it had no manual, plus the plastic was ripped on the case.


Store clerk told me it would come with 2 day full warranty... but I passed.




Which was the reason I was searching e-Bay for Dark Alliance II, hoping to find a minty copy to purchase to replace the copy we wore to the bone.


I ended up winning a listing for $33 USD (e-Bay Auction) for a copy of DA2 which included a copy of the strategy guide; not that we need it, as I doubt it will tell me anything I did not already know.

That is about what I hoped to pay... and that was actually probably cheap with the strategy guide included.


A used copy (for the PS2) of DA2 alone will normally cost no less than $30 USD on e-Bay.




XBox copies of the game sell for much less than PS2 copies do though I have no idea why.




As an aside, I am really dissapointed that the game company (Black Isle) never continued this line of games.


I would have pre-ordered and/or stood in line for a copy of DA3...


TWO player Fantasy RPGs for the Consoles are exceedingly hard to find.


Especially good ones.
