Sleeves for non-magazine sized books

Hi forum,

I've been collecting for over a year now, but Ive run into a bit of a problem; most of my modules and rules fit into a standard "large magazine sleeve", for protection. However, some just won't fit, and Im unsure on how to preserve them. These are, for example; "B1-9 In Search of Adventure" and "E-4". They are simply too large. Other rules/modules ofcourse also pose a problem: Rules Cyclopedia, Dungeon Master Guide  etc.

My preservation needs are weighed against the value of the item ofcourse - i wont preserve anything that can be obtained below the price of the preservative cover; Dungeon Master Guide will not be preserved  but my own Childhood copy of "Rules Cyclopedia" should most definitely be. I also realize that entire boxes (like red/blue box - karamikos boxes, time of the dragon, realm of terror etc) are hard to find a sleeve for; however - i still would like the option, should a rare box fall in my belonging.

How do you propose  these odd sizes are preserved ?

Air tight containers...

Think Glad, ZipLock, Tupperware... those "cheap" semi-hard plastic containers come in lots of sizes, keep the elements out, stack easy without crushing contents...

"Book" sized bags and "Life Magazine" size bags - both readily available on ebay.



Most stuff will fit.  There are only a couple boxed sets that require some 'creative' use of Life sized bags that I've run across so far.

Life Magazine-sized bags also work for boxed sets like Return to the Tomb of Horrors and Night Below.  I stuff them first with large bubble wrap to prevent the top from cupping.   8)

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions.

I have actually once seen a "very hard" plastic see-through box for magazines, I think this was more a theft-prevention device rather than a protection.

But Zip-bags, extremely large bags, good idea - I actually thought i had the largest size (as i have "Magazine size") but I didn't realize the bags came in jumbo as well :-) I found someone on ebay that advetizes with "100 pc BCW Life Magazine BAGS / Sleeves & 100ct BOARDS" - it seems like a perfect fit; now to find one in Europe :-)

Yeah, they are not exactly cheap and don't come in convenient quantities.  Bags are about 25 cents each and boards a little under a dollar each.  The smallest quantity of bags you can buy is usually 50.   :?

Price is one thing; availability in Europe and especially Denmark is another - seems like we don't have the needs for that size bags quite as much as you Americans does :-)

However, I'm keen on the idea of Zip-bags, so I will try a search for that as well.
