Yes, it's that time again, time to accept entries for the Three Castles RPG Design award, sponsored by the North Texas RPG con. This award was presented for the first time at this year's con, and the winner was The Dungeon Alphabet by Michael Curtis. All the submissions and the nominees were high quality items by well-known up and coming game designers (Rob Conley, Michael Curtis, Jonathon Becker and James Raggi) and it is the hope of the convention and committee that through the years the winners will go on to fame and fortune in the industry (and make us look good for selecting them!!!)

All the info about the award is online at the NTRPG con site. Basically, the item must have been published between October 1st, 2010 and October 1st of this year. Three physical copies must be submitted for evaluation by the steering committee, and if you move onto the final round you'll be asked to supply five more copies (we'll try to recycle copies sent to the steering committee if we can to save you money, but that's not a given). Instructions on how and where to submit entries is on the website....you have until the end of the year to get these in, but why wait?

The five final judges this year are Dennis Sustare, Robert Kuntz, Sandy Petersen, Steve Marsh, and Dave "Zeb" Cook. These gentlemen, like the judges last year, represent a breadth of gaming and design experience that covers every part of the industry, from it's earliest days until now.

The award is a beautiful statuette that represents three of the most famous megadungeons from the beginnings of the game...Blackmoor, Greyhawk and El Raja Key.

If you have any questions, post here, PM me, or go to the NTRPG con website and post there. Thanks!

The Three Castles Awardâ„¢ was conceived by Robert Kuntz and with the able assistance of Douglas Rhea as an award to be presented to designers of the highest merit for outstanding work in the industry of Role Playing Game design. Only one such award can be given annually. And due to the exacting guidelines used for determining what qualifies as an exemplary design, only those designs that match or exceed the guidelines can qualify to be awarded. If no entry meets these criteria, no award is achieved for that year.

The entries are judged for form, presentation, organization, content, usefulness, design, playability, uniqueness and art.

If you are an aspiring game designer with a newly published, qualifying work and wish to enter it for consideration, please refer to the 3CA guidelines downloadable from: NTPRGCon.com

Just a note to say the 2012 winner of the Three Castles Award for RPG Design Excellence was Kevin Crawford's Stars Without Number!  Stars beat out Tome of Adventure Design, Anomalous Subsurface Environment, and Realms of Crawling Chaos for the award. Congratulations to Kevin!
