I wanted to hear everyone's opinions on the topic of shrink-wrap.

Are they worth it? How much is the price difference between a mint shrink-wrapped and one that is open?

Is it possible the plastic can in any way harm the item or stick to it over the long term?

Is it possible to fake? Have you ever suspected an item fake shrink-wrapped?

I don't think the premium on the shrink wrap is worth it. I'd rather have something loose in mint condition than shrinked. I've bought some modules in shrink and taken it off because it was bending the module. Shrink should only be considered if you're going to sell it.

I generally collect SW items such as boxed sets and booklets that contain alot of accessories (cut-outs, chits, player cards, maps, etc.) so I know the items are complete. Genuine, unopened items are generally more valuable and costly.

However, unopened items, especially if they are old, have not been stored in dry conditions and have holes/tears in the wrapper, can be damaged by excessive humidity, mold, and staple rust. You never know until they are opened.
