Yes, at least that is some good news.  Looks like Plax might actually end up back with the Giants this year, if Coughlin can be convinced to put up with him.  I think this would be a good thing for NY --- IF he's in shape and wants to play and IF we don't pay too much for him.

Meanwhile, in hockey the Rangers are having a really productive off season.  Retained all the key players we needed to keep AND added Richards.  If he pans out and plays well and everybody stays healthy would could be a real threat in the East this year.  Slats actually did a good job with personnel for once, in spite of himself.  I wonder if Messier has anything to do with this.

Saw the new Planet of the Apes movie.  I liked it.

I am with you!  I love history like that.  The first time I saw the battlefield, I didn't know much about the battle or the history.  By the second time, I had read, "Crazy Horse and Custer: The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors" by Stephen Ambrose and several other books.  It's a fascinating place.

Several things I remember from my readings/studies:

1) Custer really wasn't all that stupid.  All his moves should have led to success.  People who don't know the history will only look at the facts of the day and think Custer was an idiot.

2) Custer graduated from Westpoint.  Yeah, it was rushed due to the Civil War, and he constantly pushed the system to the point to where he was almost kicked out time and again, but he did graduate.  Stupid people don't graduate from Westpoint. Plus, he was a successful and dynamic Civil War leader.

3) The Indians thought they lost, as many braves died that day.  We value lives taken over lives lost in battles.  For Indians, it's more like, if someone dies, you lost.  After the battle, they hurriedly retreated.

4) The American Calvary was not wiped out that day around Little Big Horn Battlefield.  Far from it, over half his troups held off the indians and survived.  Custer had divided his troups into roughly thirds, and it was only the third that was with him who were totally wiped out.
