I have a couple of item autographed by Mr. Gygax, and those autos look nothing like is pictured in this auction.  Not trying to disparage the seller, but...  Take a look:

Hmm... what's the sellers story?
Looks more like a bit of a Lone Wolf there.

That looks nothing like any of the sigs I have either.  That's why I would never pay more for a signed item. Who knows?

I'd ask why Gary would sign a D&D cyclopedia, but then again I have a copy of H2 signed by him....and I saw a guy at Gencon have Gary sign a 3rd edition rulebook.

They reckon that over 90% of the 'signed' items on eBay are fake. Unless the buyer has a photograph of themselves standing beside the celeb' at a book signing or 'con, or a certificate of authenticity from one of the few legitimate organizations (there are lots of fake organizations issuing certificates, then I'd say it is a fake.

Has anyone asked the seller who's signature it is?

I can't get eBay UK to allow me to send a question to the seller by any of the conventional means. I keep getting a blue box error saying the seller is unable to respond to questions.

Maybe this should be reported as fraudulent so some schmuck doesn't get stiffed by this seller.

Unlog you. Then search the member without looking to his items, then contact the seller, log in, and send your question. It works this way for French account. I think it would work for UK account as well.

That's not Gary's signature! Not even close. I had a boatload of things signed by him while I was part of his Thursday night crew, that ain't it!

Confirm; bogus 'sig'.

Looks like the forger attempted to replicate his "G" but nothing else.

I told the seller the sig was bogus, don't know if that'll change anything.

Mike B.

EDIT: The seller did contact me. He sounds sincere.

Dear badmike3books,

Thx for the heads up. I have no clue one way or the other. I am selling this for a client and just put what I am told. However it being in contention I will adjust the title.
