Just wanted to start a thread where people can post Fantasy Novels or Series that were particularly cool and maybe a few words why they thought so... I am always hunting for good Fantasy Novels to read but I may have passed over some that were awesome...

Here are a few I enjoyed at various points in my life:

Song of Fire and Ice 5 Books so far (and the HBO show is starting tonight)
Chronicals of Thomas Covenant 7 Books
Horseclans Series (about 20 200 page books)
The Godless World Series 3 Books Brian Ruckley

Just a few I really enjoyed... Anybody have any ideas?

Oh and a quick note... My younger Daughter just read the Sword of Shanarra and the Elfstones... and is currently on the Wishsong.

Which -SACRILEDGE I KNOW - I actually enjoyed them more than Tolkien... Tolkien was just too fanciful... Like the Fellowship of the Ring... 9 companions including no less than 4 Halflings !! Come On !! Like the Elvish King would entrust the survival of Mankind to 4 Halflings! Maybe it is because I read several other novels prior to the Hobbit etal.

I am ready for the Flames!! :twisted:

PS Oh Yeah Robert Jordan could possibly be the biggest waste of ink ever.

I always wondered about four halflings on the great quest. They specifically do not send Glorfindel along because a powerful elf lord can't beat Sauron no matter how tough he is......but a powerful elf lord not trying to beat Sauron is surely better than a hobbit not trying to beat Sauron.

And Robert Jordan....just say no.
