Hi,

I am doing some investigating on the Star Probe /Star Empire Series.  Namely, I am curious about the never printed third book of the "trilogy".

Gaygax's 'Forward' in Star Probe cites a 'trilogy', and Carr's 'Foreward' in Star Empires states that Snider had already written the *third* volume.

Does anyone information on this mysterious third volume as to what it was about? Why it was not published? Or other interesting acts on this series in general?

Thanks

Hiya! The third volume was to have contained the "RPG" component.

All three volumes were planned no later than April 1974 (per John Snider's letter in Supernova detailing the contents) but presumably that fell foul of TSR's plans to rip concepts and monopolize those without being beholden to others. In this case, Jim Ward appears to have been an innocent party given the manner in which he was encouraged to write a SF "RPG" by Gary.
