I've been watching a few auctions for the Holmes Edition, and noticed that prices seem to be going up? The first example looks like it's in great shape and has the original (?) dice, still sealed. But $83? And the second example also looks to be in good shape, with dice and crayon. $56?

Has Holmes always commanded these kinds of prices, or are these two examples simply in better shape and more complete than the average set?

$83

I have seen the same sets sell for closer to $10...
Dont know what the deal is with some of them selling for so much.
It is E-Bay though...

However, I recently bought a 3rd print and paid about $40 for it.
It is complete though the box is roughed up some.
I was more after the Monster and Treasure Assortment and Dungeon Geomorphs inside though, both are in VERY nice condition.
Those (together) could sell for that much or more.

Of course those you linked to dont have those items.
I dont get it.  :?

Hi,

yup, prices on this seem very variable, but definitely on the way up.

Prices on the red box are also going up. A few years ago they were dead in the water.

Cheers,
Malc

I agree. I recently sold an expert set for $48 or so. I was completely shocked. Just a normal, not great condition set. Average at best. It seems that we may be seeing some price increases over the next few months. Might be interesting. Supply is same as always so that is not the issue.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

There you go...

Personally, I would MUCH rather spend that (and some) on a nice looking fourth print OD&D White Box Set...  8)

Those seem really high. Those are not the earlier sets and the second one actually says that the box bottom has heavy staining.

One thought is that the Gygax set that sold for ~$308 last week has bumped overall prices a bit.

I just won a copy of the same set (with B1) for $14.50, though it's not a good comparison as it's got tape on the module and box, and it came with a bonus Your Personal Invitation to Adventure:

In the first example, the box looks nice and crisp. However there are only limited pictures of the box...

So if the box was in completely near mint condition like the picture alludes to, it might be worth that much... maybe...
