When I came to Cincinnati 30 years ago, I briefly tried to get some of the boardgame friends I had made interested in
D&D. I didn't have much luck, and gave up on it. I learned last night that I had loaned a
woodgrain set (I had about 4 then) to one of my new friends; I had forgotten, and he had too. He recently came upon it in a box of games and says it is in the same shape (probably pretty decent, at least) as when I loaned it to him, and he's bringng it back to me. Gobsmacked.
I expect to auction it at GenCon, but might do e-Bay. or, hell, I just don't know. (And this just short weeks after I found my pristine TSR lizardman belt buckle in the bottom of a cedar chest.)
I am considering bringing a white-box (
OCE) set to auction at GenCon that a friend recently unearthed. The box is a little crunchy, but the books (All of them incl.
S&S) are so good the points of the covers are still sharp. They are a mixed bag of printings, just as he bought them all at once at the
FLGS all those years ago.
I also have (also his) all of the
AD&D 1st Ed hardbounds, although the
MM has some water damage.
PHB is 6th,
MM 4th,
DMG 3rd or 4th Revised,
D&DG 3rd (no squids),
MMII, 1st,
FF 1st. With the exception of the
MM, these books are in nice shape with covers very bright and corners sharp and unscuffed.
My friend has asked that I get what I can for these for him. As he is a very long-term friend, I said I'd do my best. So, I am torn between the GC auction, e-Bay and private offers. Some problem, huh?
