CRAP!
Well looks like I am about to get a negative with ZEROS for the star thingies.
I accidentally listed a White Box Set with a 99 cent BIN.
Someone hit it within nanoseconds (before I even knew something was wrong).
The buyer even sent funds within moments.

Once I figured out what happened I refunded the money and sent notes to the buyer explaining (Though was it really needed?) that that listed was a mistake.

I then relisted the set with a 99 cent STARTING bid as I had intended to do from the start.

It is an honest mistake, you should have nothing to worry about.

on a different day it might have been one for the recent fun finds thread. Hopefully the buyer will be decent about it though' mistakes happen unfortunately.

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

If you do get negged, then respond to the feedback with a brief explanation of how you screwed up. Anyone who is buying your collectible RPG material will know that you obviously mis-listed your item.

But I'm with Serl. Let us know before you are listing your next batch of items so we can BIN you into poverty.

I actually saw that one in the completed listings and had almost posted it in the fun finds thread that someone got very lucky when I noticed the exact same one listed again.

So I figured it was a mistake. I can imagine that buyer being pretty disappointed

It seems like the value in the OD&D stuff is in the boxes and not the books. I have a stack of the books but no box, and they never seem to be worth much.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Speaking of suck selling on eBay...

Just got this golden nugget. I put the juicy parts in BOLD.

Seller fee update coming in July

We know that online buyers pay attention to the total cost of an item--including shipping--when deciding what and where to buy. That's why to encourage low-cost shipping, starting July 6 Final Value Fee rates for Store sellers--Fixed Price and Auction-style--will be reduced and then applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping.

The good news for you: Just keep your shipping charges low and upgrade to a Premium Store and, based on your recent selling activity, you will see little or no impact on your overall fees. Consider ways to further reduce your shipping charges, and your fees could even be lower than they are today.

Haha, yeah right, and other obscenities. We're already getting pinged for S&H via paypal. Now it seems they want to double dip. I can't imagine selling overseas with the new fees. I foresee more sellers leaving that venue.

Boy that does blow, especially for items that have a high shipping cost or the buyer wants to expedite. They do state "Store" sellers though. Still, I don't see this helping sellers or buyers, just eBay.

eBay even states that buyer's pay attention to the total cost. So, if the shipping is too high, a buyer would logically be discouraged from purchasing the item wouldn't they? Now eBay is going to impose an additional fee on sellers, based upon what they think is a reasonable shipping cost just so they can encourage buyers to purchase your items and discourage sellers from marking up their shipping?

Seems like sellers will merely pass on the cost to the buyer in the shipping & handling costs and eBay gets fatter. Plus, if they can "encourage" enough sellers to upgrade to a Premium Store, they make even more money! Either this strategy is not very sneaky or someone at eBay didn't think it out very well.

Wait, explain this to me again how the earth is banana shaped and sheeps livers can be used to predict earthquakes and ebay is now going to collect final value fees off of the shipping cost? So if it costs me $10 to ship something ebay wants 8 or 10% of that as well as the sale price of the item?

What this means to me...

1) For the most part: Only HUGE sellers will ship anything out of the country they are located in.

2) Heavy items will be sold elsewhere through other venues.

3) US/Canadian Only listings will start to multiply like rabbits.
(Same for UK/Europe sellers listing only to Europe/UK)
God help Aussie sellers...

4) E-Bay is pushing small sellers out of business.

5) Yahoo will see a spike in seller activity (Should we buy stock?).

6) E-Bay is STILL chock full of idiots at management decision making level.

7) Many more folks will now view other venues like RPGMarketPlace as far more attractive for anything they want to sell worldwide.

I'll just charge more for international shipping, but that will certainly reduce items bought from international buyers. And, I predict other sellers will do the same reducing international purchases overall.

Still, I was sick and tired of reporting auctions where sellers had totally reversed the purchase price and the shipping cost to avoid eBay fees. And whenever I did searches, I would often see attractive prices for items only to discover the S&H was outrageous. This policy change won't completely stop that, but I would predict it'll reduce it.

I think I like the changes as most of my items are of the lower cost variety, and eliminating the listing fee is probably an overall advantage. Plus, I think I might list a bunch of buy it now items that I normally would not since I have little confidence they'll sell. Even if it isn't overall financially advantageous for me, I really don't see it as that big a deal. Then again, I may change my mind.

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

lol! I've been reading the ebay forums for entertainment. I expect the backlash will further erode eBay's market share. eBay will start collecting the FVF percentage on total sale price + any S&H charges starting in July. I've broken down a simple transaction below keeping in mind Paypal is already charging a fee on total sale price + shipping. Greed is going to drown them.

I believe the math works. This is just a quick calculation.

Old Fee Structure
$10 sale price
$4 shipping
$.25 List Price (Auction)

Final Value Fees
$10x9% = .90
FVF on sale price is 9% (This varies but to keep it simple this is auction only. Fixed price fees are higher. 12% or more)

Paypal Fees
$4x(.30+2.3% of total S&H) = .39

Total cost: $1.54
(List+FVF+PP)
-------------------------

New Fee Structure
FVF
$14x.09 = 1.26
($10 sale price + $4 shipping)

Paypal
$4x(.03+2.3%) = .39

Total cost: $1.90
(List+New FVF+PP)

% increase: (1.90-1.26/1.26)
= 50.79%

Agree, more sellers will be looking at other venues just to avoid the complicated tangle of increasing fees every year.

BenJ - Did they say they are going to eliminate insertion fees? I either interpreted wrong or missed that part. I think ins fees are still part of the equation unless you list items at .99 starting so your first 100 are free each month.
