Anyone know what this is all about.

Its part of WotC Encounters line.  They are sent out to the stores for groups to play every week.  Each one contains an encounter to work through.  Keep on the Borderlands has 5 chapters.

I'd normally say let the kids have their fun and inherit the story. Problem is there is just something cheap and unepic about today's D&D so they don't deserve it.

Problem is that revising an old module is automatically going to meet with resistance. The collective memory of the gaming community does not take to well with revisionist creations that typically suck. Every once in a while, a revision is done well. But most often the designers completely miss the mark. For some reason, it seems they never even played the original product. The revision often has the taint of "I can do it better."
I have no problem with a 4e version of an old module. But for Pete's sake, the guy who does it should at least know what the hell he is dealing with.

Only the Hommlet redo. I thought it was ok, though. I am talking more of the older revised stuff.

I actually like the strategy game aspect of 4e (I can't stand a couple of the new character classes, though). I am interested in picking up the B2 4e products, too.

This is correct.  The only thing they used was the name (I was interested in picking this up until I got a peek at the adventures and was saddened that all it had going for it was name recognition).
