Frankenwoodgrain?

Guys and gals:

I just got a woodgrain I bought on eBay as a third print. All books are clearly Third as per Acaeum guidelines. But woodgrain on box runs horizontal, not vertical. I don't know who would put third print books on a first print box (the other way around makes more sense, if original box was damaged from use or other; what happened to the third print box or the first print books??). Is this a frankenwoodgrain or I am seeing something else?

The box is correct; the Acaeum listing isn't. (One of several glitches still on the page for OD&D sets).

Is it the 3rd print woody Troll and Toad had listed?  

As faro (:)) stated, horizontal woodgrain is correct for 1st and 3rds; it's the size of the label that differs between them, being larger on the 3rd.

Spock is correct. Box was a little banged up (fair, maybe), but in my opinion books are very good.

PS. I have another question: inside the book, there is an errata sheet, but also a bunch of other folded sheets with tables, spell lists, monster data, etc. I checked all the books and they are complete; no pages missing. These extra pages also have no staple holes. Are they part of the errata?

Those are the quick reference sheets.  Probably the ones under the errata sheet in the last photo in the ebay listing.

I think you got a decent deal on that woodie despite the condition.
I have seen quite a few Minty White Box Sets sell for close to that and a very few for even more than that.

Hiya! (:)). Vertical woodgrain is /also/ AOK for the 3rds. The label size is indeed the primary point of distinction as I'd've hoped might've been noted in the listing.
