My DM called me a couple of days ago and informed me that American Eagles is closing. I stopped by today to check it out and found out they are indeed closing their doors on April 9.

Eagles has been a fixture in the Seattle gaming/hobby biz for over 40 years. I waxed nostalgic about them over on my blog, having done business there on and off at all three of their stops (Greenwood, Ballard, Lake City). I suppose it was only a matter of time before they joined the list of brick & mortar stores that had to shut down.

Anyhow, they are currently selling all their goods for 20%-30% off. They have a lot of 2E stuff in shrink, things like Al-Qadim, Dark Sun, etc. There must have been at least 6 each of the Player's Packs (currently going for stupidly high prices on eBay). Lots of other stuff too: Star Wars, GURPS, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, TMNT, Car Wars...mostly things like adventures and supplements, things of that nature. It's like a time warp in there!

Oh, board games too. LOTS of board games. And a load of GHQ Micro Armour and ships. Reference books (Osprey, etc) and history books galore. And a ton of plastic models too. All scales, some vintage kits, some mom & pop kits, aftermarket pieces, etc.

So if you live up here in the great state of Washington, you might want to stop by Eagles before they shut down forever. You won't find a copy of orange B3 in shrink, but you might find a couple little gems or random items you just can't live without.

You may want to bring a camera and take some pictures for nostalgia sake.  Would also let a bunch of us see what's there

End of an Era  

By the time I travel all the way over there I will have spent as much as I would save on a discounted item.  

I used to shop at the American Eagles store in Ballard back in the day.   I bought enough Warhammer 40K eldar there to launch my own planetary invasion.   I also shopped at their short-lived store in Tacoma.

I have only been to their current store once...to track down some Elric/Stormbringer publications.

I can still recall a shelf of Midkemia stuff that I didn't buy back in the 90's!  

I guess all things come to an end.  American Eagles was dedicated to all facets of the gaming hobby, including modeling, terrain, miniatures, boardgames and role-playing games.  

With the demise of Wonderworld Games in Burien and now the fall of American Eagles, the old-time Seattle area game store scene has gone for good.

We will not see their like again.




PS:  Does anyone here remember Wild Weasel Games in Tacoma?  Now there was a game store!

There are a few.  Discordia Games, in Bremerton, has been a contender at various times, although their focus is strongly on miniatures.

And...there are still game store markets in the Northwest.  Salem, Oregon has a surprising number of active RPG game stores.

For those of you who have sent me your wish lists, I'll be heading there this week now that I'm back from vacation and the kids are on mid-winter break.

I hate to see American Eagles close. I have such fond memories of the place. I use to game a lot at their Tacoma location before it closed four or five years ago.

Grabbed a few items for myself, and some for a few members. I could have filled a small (or large) moving truck with all the stuff still sitting around! Most items are now on sale for 40% to 70% off.

Just hope those shelves get put to use.

I use to do a product run for American Eagles Tacoma every once in awhile on a Friday. This was in the early-to-mid 90's. I would go from the Tacoma store, drive up to the Seattle store and bring back a load of new and restocking products. They had a lot of very old stuff in their inventory just sitting around in the back rooms. Stuff like lead figures for Greyhawk (Ral Parth maybe) and multiple sets of OD&D. That place was a treasure-trove of old gaming goodies. I wish I could have gone thru all that old stuff back there.
