The sale was two years ago, I don't know if I was just lucky or what, so I really couldn't say. It's rare enough you should be able to do ok.....but I would check online dealers like Noble Knight and Troll & Toad to see if they have copies, if not, go for it.

That's insane!  I've bought 3 off of Ebay for $20 and under of the last couple of years.  I'm happy when I buy a copy for $10 and resell it for $35 - it usually takes about a year to turn it over.

For $140, I would expect to get a copy of Dwarven Glory and a 1st print Iron Winds + some other stuff.

I've seen the original '78 edition go for maybe $60 on ebay in recent years, got my '79 version on Amazon for $20.  

The former is the one pictured in the auction above, with a figure who looks suspiciously like Dana Scully. Nice, but I'm also quite fond of the '79 edition I have: an ultimate 1970s sepia-on-sepia color scheme, & an author photo embarrassing enough to now be actively suppressed.

Neither is incredibly rare, but uncommon enough to go on the market without competition -there's usually nothing to compare it to. Hence the significant price swings noted by BadMike.

That sale sure appeared to be an outlier.  I think it was one of those cases where not knowing what the item was worth, and seeing it in such beautiful condition, and having no prices to compare it to, I stuck it up at $140 and someone bought it right away also without knowing the real price.  If I had sat around and thought about it I probably would have priced it closer to what everyone is estimating....so I guess I got really lucky on that!

Thanks for all the Great Info guys!! I really Love this site.   My knowledge on TSR Items is pretty good. But I really like and am into what I like to call Non-Tsr D&D Items. But my knowledge on some of the more obscure companies and items is not all that great. I pretty familar with companies and their items, but my knowledge of values is somewhat lacking.

I'm truly glad to be able to chat with true D&D lovers and collectors like you guys!!
