I am sure some D&D items will show up someday. Anything cool items Paul (ie manuscripts, OD&D cool stuff)

That was my take on it. Nothing up yet you couldn't get from any other eBayer. Hopefully there will be some real gems and unique items turning up. Even if, for most of us, it'll just be a popcorn event.

The auction titles read really well but did he even read the stuff...
Lots of times I'll buy a piece of art and the artist will have the book and break it out of the closet and sign it for me. I think the book basically went from TSR to the closet to Me or thereabouts in those cases. I'm unsure what the "value" of that Gary association is asides from the "actual" value of the item. Maybe Gary ran some killer Top Secret campaigns or something

The SPI collecting community just went to red alert. All those SPI games in the shrink are gonna be insane. You just don't see them in shrink very often. People who bought them, played them.
On top of that, several of those titles are not exactly common products and always go for big bucks in beat up condition. It will be fun to watch this auction.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Strikes me as one of the jewels this round.

A nice early copy of the world's first sci fi RPG, owned by one of the fathers of role-playing. The Vigilist in me regards this as a curious artifact of great yet mysterious importance.

I thought this wasn't actually released until August 2008, and Gygax passed away in March 2008? The auction doesn't make it clear if this was something he received while he was still alive (i.e. pre-general release copy), or was given to his estate after he passed away.

Most of the stuff being listed is just fluff. Stuff thrown in and loosely associated with the name or intent. We've seen a move towards this type of auction. Wish we could go back to the type of auctions Treasure Trove used to do where they sold unique items persoannly owned and written by the named author.

Treasure Trove auctions used to be real big events, but the last two or three have been a real let down, filled with the sort of stuff you see on eBay year in year out.

'm just hoping there'll be a round 2 with some real gems, but the listings so far would seem to indicate not.

I sure hope Gail decides to sell off EGG's ephemera at auction sometime.

Well, I picked up the collection in January and February of this year. The collection takes up 104 banker's file boxes plus various loose and over-sized items, weighs one and a quarter tons (good thing I have have a strong back!), and consists of 14,000 individual items. I began cataloging and organizing the collection in January and completed organization and cataloging on November 15th of this year.

My initial organization of the materials was product and non-product. Product is simply items that Gary received, for various reasons or purposes, but never actually played. There are approximately 3,000 of these. The remainder of the collection is non-product. These include product items that were played, edited, read, reviewed, etc. by Gary. It also includes thousands of letters, hundreds of manuscripts, hundreds of contracts and documents, dozens of pieces of original artwork, awards, and numerous miscellaneous items.

The items in the collection range in age from 1956-2008.

See the post above. There will be a huge number of personal items but with 3,000 product type items, including hundreds of D&D related items I have to start somewhere.

The main reason auctions have been throttled back is the economy. I have advised Darlene, Zeb Cook, Dennis Sustarre, Jim and Laura Roslof, and a number of other designers and artists to hold off just a bit longer. So those collections will come online as the marketplace recovers. I don't know if you have been following the current auction but the bids are *crazy*. A good sign? Sure seems like it.

Really looking forward to seeing the 'non-product' stuff going up for auction.

It was my winning of the City of the Revenant MS in the first Steve Marsh auction event, and the board's question, "Does anyone know who won this?", that brought me to the forum in the first place. The unique items are what set these auctions appart.

As the auctions for each of the items finish for this collection, I am wondering if anyone on the board thinks that any of these items sold for a high or incredibly higher mark up than normal considering they are from the Gygax collection?

I jumped in on a couple of items but was and still am amazed at how high they went for.
