No I don't think so.

They are releasing a new line of comics for D&D. That looks like it is a variant cover to the first issue. Not sure if there is any gaming content inside or not.

That is the module version of the new Dungeons & Dragons comic book from IDW Publishing.

Issue 0 ($1.00) was released recently. Issue 0 has a cover price of $1.00.
Issue 1 ($3.99) was released in early November.
Issue 2 (presumably $3.99) will be released in early December.

Each issue has variant covers and game content.

Issue 0 has six different covers and game stats for a young black dragon.
Issue 1 has five different covers and a two-page stat sheet for the warrior character. The orange-bordered cover is for the 1:10 retailer-incentive module version of issue 1, which contains a 5-1/2 page module.
Issue 2 will have a module variant as well, or at least that's what I think it is. It may be only a 1:10 cover variant.
I don't know if the modules continue after Issue 2.

If your comic book store is cool, then it will photocopy the module and game content on pages 25 through 32. Buy a copy of the normal comic book, and you may get a photocopy of the module. PDFs of issues 0 and 1 have probably hit the torrentsphere by now.

Is the comic any good? Most of the recent comics from Devil's Due were graphic novel adaptations of the novels. This seems to be an original story.

Issue #0: The comic is split between D&D and the upcoming Dark Sun comic. The comic is only a dollar, so you can't lose unless you try to pick up all of the cover variants.

The D&D story is the climax of an adventure. Immediate action and characterization. The adventure ends improbably, but that's what makes this a memorable adventure. Lots of humor, lots of fun.
The Dark Sun story sets up an adult gladiator at the beginning of his on-the-run-from-law-and-slavers adventuring career. In a few pages, this character moved from his stable life to nothing. He is completely screwed. The Dark Sun series will be dark indeed.

Issue #1: Artwork is clean but remains a bit generic. The script is fast-paced and has a few holes*. 4E-isms such as the Shadowfell are referenced. The script is full of the characters poking fun at each other and wisecracking. This feels like the first D&D movie (which I liked) with more characters and more D&D-isms.

If you are a dead-serious person who likes his world grim-'n'-gritty, then this is not the comic for you; try the Dark Sun comic instead. Buy this comic because all of my favorite comics get cancelled. The recent Spider-Woman series. Punisher. Moon Knight.

(*)If I am being held for trial, then would my weapons be easily-accessible to me? Panel 1 = no weapons. Panel 2 = fighter now has his sword. Panel 3 = Everyone is fully-armed and jumping out a glass window.

The first D&D movie is fun. Damon Wayans' character is the wisecracking PC or player that all games must have. While he is the buffoon, he plays an important role in the movie. The DVD's two commentaries are acceptable to good, as are the extra features.

The second D&D movie is boring. The second movie has a worthless commentary of PCs (played by industry people) commenting on the movie in-character. However, the DVD extras of Gary Gygax are brief but may be worth the price of the DVD.

I can't even watch 10 minutes of that movie without feeling nautious.
The second one was not nearly as bad, but still the forced D&D references were done very poorly.

I liked the second one.

Although it was very stereotypical of the characters, I feel that's what was needed after that piece of crap first D&D movie.

It was an actual adventuring party, and they went into a dungeon, and got treasure and stuff, and they fought a dragon.

After all, it's called Dungeons and Dragons...

Good god! You liked the D&D movie? I knew it was impossible-sucktastic the moment I heard the word "Wayans."

It got worse from there...capped off with incredibly stupid special effects.

They cut footage of Dave Arneson out of the movie...for which he was probably thankful.

My review of the D&D movie would be:

Emblematic of the contempt movie people have for fantasy subjects and fantasy fans. They don't get it. They aren't going to get it.

If you thought those D&D movies were bad, just watch that Dragonlance animated movie. Terrible in virtually every way possible.
