Hi guys, I have two copies of War of Wizards and I am unsure if this is even the right place to ask but I figured some of you might have some information for me :P

Anyway, I have the TSR copy and it looks like all the images I can find on the net and all the information I can find says that TSR produced it so I am not too concerned with that one.  However, I have another copy that is bound in yellow but doesn't have any mention of TSR on it at all.  All it says on the inside is "Copyright M.A.R. Barker, Minneapolis Minnesota 1975."

The cover just has the picture of the man with the staff and "War of Wizards" on it. IS this some sort of 1st printing before TSR got a hold of it? I have attached a (terrible) picture that I took with my cell phone. I forgot to snap one of the covers but I'll have one soon.

Thanks in advance!

Scroll down a bit here:

http://www.waynesbooks.com/tekumel.html

The version depicted on the left was what I always assumed the first print was; it came in a Zip-Loc bag, and had the TSR "GK" logo on the booklet.

Never heard of a self-published one!  That could be worth a bundle.  :)

The 1st print WW is indeed Barker's; I've seen a couple over the years.

Yah, should be worth a premium.

Yep, sold at a premium (to myself), Frank, then Troll & Toad sent the TSR version (along with minor damage from poor packing). This, after failing to reply to my inquiry regarding combined postage *THREE* times. Still zero reply to my "wrong item" complaint after three working days, so negative feedback left. Should've known better than to try to do business with Troll & Toad again, I guess. d. === March 15 Greetings from over the pond! Returning customer, here. Having checked your stock (that took two days!) I'd like to enquire what additional cost there might be for the following three items, including p&p. From past experience, p&p has not combined well hence checking in advance. Looking forward to your reply and hoping we can do business on these: if so, additional payment can either be direct via PayPal or added onto existing p&p: please allow for /strong/ packing, please. 1.

despite being exactly the same size. 2. **** 3. **** (may I query why the price is for 'new in plastic' rather than lower VF grade since I don't believe this was issued in shrinkwrap). Kind regards; and thank you for your assistance, David/harami2000 === March 16 Hiya again! I didn't require a combined invoice to be issued, since I've only bought one item thus far! I need to know how much /extra/ the total cost would be /if/ I were to buy the three items stated below along with the one already purchased. :) I'm more than happy to order those other three through your website, instead, but must know in advance that the additional p&p cost is "reasonable" for the entire package. Many thanks, once again, David/harami2000 === March 19 (Third and final attempt - and not as though I'm asking a difficult question... Do you wish possible additional custom or not?) (copy) Hiya again! I didn't require a combined invoice to be issued, since I've only bought one item thus far! Many thanks, once again, David/harami2000 === (no luck...) === Sent:  Mar-31-11 06:39 AM                       Dear trollandtoadstore, *** ITEM NOT AS DESCRIBED - PLEASE reply ASAP *** Good morning, I've already stated that I was going to leave neutral feedback at best since you failed on *three* occasions to reply to my inquiry as to what the combined shipping would be with this item plus a few others. To cap this all, the packing was inadequate (card for pieces is bent at one corner) and you have sent me the NORMAL TSR release *NOT* the pre-TSR print that I have paid for. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP to resolve this matter. Return postage for the item sent in error will be in the order of $20-30 if you wish this back. I'll take a photo of the item received later if req'd but need to get back to work now. If I do not receive full satisfaction in this matter I will not only leave negative feedback but additionally post full details of the whole backstory on those collector's boards I am a respected member of since this is just one failing after another and simply not good enough. Kind regards, David/harami2000

As I have said before.. when they get it wrong they really go all out.. sounds like an experience I had with the.. you should think yourself blessed at least they sent something to you and not someone else like they did with me.. ;)

Wish I could fix this one, but I can't.

I found that where the TSR one was supposed to be, took the pics with my phone and personally re-binned it. Honestly don't know how they messed that one up, its fairly ridiculous.

I quit T&T in Feb for a variety of reasons, one of which was rampant unprofessionalism. I was never ever surprised about all of these errors I keep hearing about, but I was surprised that no matter how much myself or someone else did, they keep happening. As for this one, I truly am confused because they were literally on opposite ends of warehouse. I made sure of that.

I thought I could fix things but I couldn't and it seemed like there was some roadblock every time I tried/.  Sorry guys :(  I at least made pricing a little better and put up individual descriptions for the higher priced Items for whatever thats worth.  Don't think you guys will be buying any of them anyway :P

Found this bit of info in SR #2 on the last page:

"As a special pre-publication offer we are making a very limited number of author-produced copies of WAR OF WIZARDS available to SR subscribers only -- and at a special price ! When the TSR version is released the price will be not less than $7.00, and it could be more, so you cannot go wrong. Better still, this version will be essentially the same as that we are now at work on, only a few details will be changed, and the system and spells will be exactly as found in the current edition."

Maybe this could be the "mystery" printing that you have.

Yep; that's the one that T&T managed to lose, somehow...
(Looking forward to the day they accidentally send someone out a woodgrain instead of an OCE).
