Which book?

1st page is title page
2nd page is copyright info page
3rd page is acknowledgements
4th page is contents page
5th page is preface (1st numbered page)

One possibility is that both copies were ex-library stock? A huge chunk of what was a very small print run of these books went into public libraries in the UK. Even the NM copies, as it's not something most people borrowed from a library. My personal copy is ex-library and NM, and accoring to the withdrawl sticker, has never been taken out.

Almost all of the NM copies of this I've seen on eBay that were not library stock, including the three that I have sold myself, were actually from Australia. No idea why, that's just my observations on this book.

Don't take my guess as gospel. It's just a guess based on my previous experience. I would have expected some other evidence, a library stamp elsewhere, sticker residue on the prine where an indexing laber was, that sort of thing. My current copy has no indexing label and no evidence that there ever was one, but it does have the library's stamp in green ink at both the front and back of the book. If a library marls only a single page in a book, you got very lucky.

I'd guess at complete coming up for sale less often. Most ebay copies are ex-library.
