Yes. I was watching it too from Kabul, debating whether I should go for broke and try to add this gem to my collection in Australia. However, it went way over what I anticipated as well.

Such a beautiful set. I wonder who the lucky winner is?

You need to stop typing 'Toonies' and simply put in the amount otherwise you will never win.

I imagine this woodgrain will be the benchmark for years to come in collecting circles. For those of you who own one of these beasties, how did this one compare considering there was only one picture for evaluation?

Being such a round number, I wonder if it went to someone outside the US?

Not to this price, but I never bid a round number like that, always £25.71 or something, as that can tip you over the £25.50 bidders etc.

I knew that I would have the same problem which is why I did the thing that every veteran eBayer knows that you should not do. I bid early :oops:

Cool. Now I know how high to not bid.

I mean, if a nearly perfect, extra-special one goes for $5600, then the not-so-awesome (yet still extremely amazing) ones must be cheaper.

Very special case here. I predicted it would be the highest selling copy ever, and I was right (for once). The condition and the letter of provenance were an incredible combo.

Unfortunately I think you will get a lot of woodgrains up in the next few months with the owners hoping to get 5K for them.....but really this was an almost unique case.

Another interesting thing about this auction was the "Supplement I" that was 24 pages and coverless. I wonder if this is some sort of rare pre-pub printing of Greyhawk, or possibly a misidentified Reference Sheet supplement...? Any ideas here...?

The fortunate or unfortunate part depends on whether you're the buyer or seller. They'll put them up expecting a similar price, under conditions which might be considered an economic micro-bubble, but the prices might be much lower. I've gotten some good, cheap deals under such conditions.

Doesn't look at all like a GH. Page count is too light to be a GH.
Looks like RefSheets. Maybe a double set.
