I found some random items in a box and I need some help.

Does anyone know which Dragon Magazine issue included the, "Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator Demo, 1.0 cd?"

I also have a mystery cd called, "Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim: a Free Playable Demo." This may have come with either Dragon or Shadis.  Can anyone place it with an issue number?

Any help would be appreciated.

Best,

Paul

I do not believe the D&D CD came in a Dragon, but I suppose it could have. It reminds me a lot of the disc that came with the 3.0 PHB.

The other would have come out in 2000, or so. Was Shadis even around then? I gave up on that magazine when I gave up Magic.

I believe this CD was included in an envelope in the back cover of the 3rd Edition Player's Handbook.

I never could get mine to work.  Many of the books still have them inside as I assume they proved worthless and people just slipped them back into the envelope.

Serl, FC,

Thank you both for the information.  Now I understand why the CD was lying in a box, forgotten. :P

Serl, Shadis died in 1998.

One mystery solved, one to go... the Majesty demo CD, anyone?

Best,

Paul

Majesty is from Dragon 269, according to my notes.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

There are actually different versions of the D&D character maker CD. Some work better than others, but aside that, some have magic items, spells, and the like whereas others pretty much just let you roll stats and pick race/class. They were both released at the same time, though as my brother had a better version than I did despite both coming from GenCon in 2000... just a heads up, if you're trying to "complete" official d20.

Thank you very much for the information.  My mystery box of RPG miscellany is now sorted. 8)

Interesting, thanks.  Were the more detailed CDs included with the Player's Handbooks?

Best,

Paul

Yes, and as I recall, there is no visible difference. One has to insert and run to find out.
