It was only a matter of time! I actually tried to do something productive 8)

Member "Allison" on here sends me this missive the other day via Ebay:

"Your shipping is very excessive - maybe an error? Ebay does not allow that and you risk your feedback, or being banned from Ebay."

Of course the dumbass (and yes that word is very appropriate...) neglects to see my feedback (although low) is outstanding. More onto her antics in a minute... I got multiples of those types of messages (which is fine to send me a "question" AS ALLISON CLAIMS TO HAVE DONE) but not fine to make unfounded "accusations" WHICH ALLISON ACTUALLY DID ABOVE. So I get spooked and end the Ebay auction. Sorry guys... I know some of you were very interested and I wanted to make a sale there:/ There's a lot more to this but back to "Allison".

So I respond in kind. Allison doesn't seem to have a grasp on "Logic" and/or the English language although she has assured me she's a "Classy" "Lady"... yeah... So let me break it down for you here "Allison" since you refuse to admit you were in the wrong.

You said: Your shipping is very excessive (and continue). Let me break this down for you Allison. What you're actually saying here is this: My shipping = very excessive. This is a statement where you accuse my shipping being "very excessive". You have REFUSED to elaborate upon this further yet it's the very first thing YOU, a complete stranger to me, has ever uttered. You ramble on: "maybe an error?" this is where you give me an out. At this point you're telling me this Allison: My shipping is whacked out but if it was an "error" then it's OK but otherwise no, it's not OK. Your first utterance there gives me no leeway. You didn't say something along the lines of, "your shipping "seems" excessive". Your question to me was this Allison: If your shipping is actually what you say it is then it's too much and you "could be banned get bad feedback blah blah blah...".
If my shipping is accurate you're simply in the wrong Alison. If you're in the wrong then you owe me the apology you have refused to give me while continuing on and on about how I'm the one who "insulted you" and intimidated you after you cast the 1st stone and immediately insulted me (by your accusation) and intimidated me (by using terms like being banned from Ebay).
You go on and on about random BS and never once give me any advice how to ship my -1 of- items cheaply (and safe) yet you refuse to ever admit YOU were in the wrong initially and get upset with me when I respond in kind?? You're an ass Allison. Feel free to copy and paste every communication we've had with one another here and look like more of an ass...
C ya later!

Too many people fucking with me here guys. Sorry but I'm out along with my art thread:wink:
Unfortunately I'm unable to mention another situation which is going on with a very beloved person TO US ALL by another person who might be responsible with my present grief. misterspock can attest to what I'm saying here and although I'm "abbrasive" and seemingly rude sometimes know that I'm nothing like Allison who gets her thrills going after random strangers and dishing out accusations without being able to take them.
Also ask Prufrock, Beasterbrooke, Stratochamp, the list goes on but I'm afraid I don't remember, if I ever manipulated one penny of a profit out of shipping...
I'm outta here!

Ok, my real last post :D Cause I already know what's coming... and to answer your "response" Allison. It sucks when you takes pot shots at random strangers and one of them shoots back... huh?

Looks like something else has been happening here appart from my question in the Shady Dealer threads.

People ask questions and post statements on the forum all the time about this transaction or that; about this eBayer or that. Hell, Pip even questioned in jest about my possible relation to Jonb/Lisa's Stiff. These are all valid questions, and whilst some people may act fast, or send private messages to sellers via eBay, the nature of eBay now is that not everyone knows who everyone else is on eBay. I spend a hige chunk of time each day watching transactions and price  movements on eBay, and I try to keep a handle on which seller belongs to which board member. From my recollection (and I haven't gone back to check) the eBay ID had a reletively small amount of feedback (in the 40's) and looked like a newbie or someone who rarely operates on eBay. Most people here on the forum do not fall into that demographic. I for one did not pit two and two together.

Hell, I have six years of feedback, mostly from other D&Ders, and people still don't recognise my eBay ID. Even extablished Acaeum members.

I cannot talk wisely of anything that's happened on messaging through eBay, but in regard to my post in the Shady Dealer thread, I offer my heart felt apology for any wrong you feel.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I could make a response to all that was written above about me, but prefer not to and stay on the Ebay message track.

My comments were to a Large Flat Rate Box costing $35 as was stated in the auction. I didn't know the person was a member of Acaeum at the time that I sent the message. As he had sold very few articles, I thought he had not been following the various Ebay regulations received on a regular basis, and so on as quoted.

I have had a few questions directed at me in similar fashion on Ebay concerning my own auctions. I responded without losing my temper or resorting to name-calling. And I have removed an auction of mine in response to words from a member here. I took it as good advice.

I have already apologised for one section of all this, but I will not apologise for the post I sent on Ebay. It was in good faith to a member of Ebay.

Welcome to the real world Tharizdun. Sometimes people say things to you that either piss you off or are hurtful.
On some of those occasions you misinterpret what is being asked/said and overreact.
You have the choice to either run from the fight or hold the line and defend your position until there is either a clear winner or a stalemate.
Your choice friend.

I'm confused?!  I bought one of the maps from Tharizdun and a Frazier piece.  Tharizdun charged me $20 to ship the pieces to me.  Which I was fine with.  Despite the deal taking quite a long time to finalize, I was happy with the way the peices were packaged.  When I saw his auction and the shipping cost ($35) I thought it was very high.

I will say that the artwork arrived to me very professionally packaged.  There was little chance that these peices were going to be damaged.

I'd agree with Pru, I'm confused..

The reaction seems extreme as a result of questioning an ebay seller on excessive shipping costs. That happens all the time it seems.

The other intimated points from Thariz relate to something outside that deal and the Acaeum it seems, which this may or may not be the place to elaborate on, unless its via PM.

Providing its based on fact and heresay...

Have to say, this comes as a shot out of the blue, but if there is some underhandedness going on through the Acaeum, I'd like to know in case I get stung by someone involved. Which I hasten to add, I have not previously and have only very good experiences with those I have dealt with on here!  :)

Allison, while I do believe there is a slight over reaction here 8O if I had received the message you sent my first reaction would be to tell you to go jump. Just because others have done the same to you doesn't make it right.  Your message can easily be taken as a statement followed by a threat.

Tharizdun, so you are going to broad brush an entire site because of a few bad experiences? Your own words suggest you have also had very good experiences.  I prefer to focus on the good experiences.  Life is too short to focus on the bad ...

everybody has bad experiences on ebay at some point or another. if you don't then youre damn lucky to have missed them.

sometimes you just need to get to the bottom of a problem and resolve it. if it relates to folk on this site, majority of the time, it gets sorted and fixed. if it doesnt, then well frankly it will get talked about by the ones who feel aggrieved!

i have no idea what is expensive for shipping in the states and am guided by what friends say who live there. if martin says $20 was reasonable for what he got...i take that as a decent guide, so yes, $35 is then excessive - all you had to do was justify it. if you feel it justified and the person buying doesnt, then well you will get hammered for it - thats how it works right?

sometimes its also down to the decency of the seller right off. if my shipping is excessive, once i have posted something, its common for me to actually refund without being asked - to me thats the sign of a good seller looking after what he does and the buyer too.

but hey what do i know.

i hope this all gets resolved and feel a little aggrieved that the whole site is being tarnished with the same brush - thats defo bad form.

Alan

Perhaps Acaeum members could add his/her ebay ID in his/her signature to avoid this problem? So one could immediatly know if a seller on ebay is an Acaeum member and asks his question consequently. BTW if a seller receives a question from a buyer who is an Acaeum member, he can reply consequently too.
It is always very complicate to know who is who, and some of us have even several ebay ID (like me).
Several times I asked question to sellers without knowing that they are reputable Acaeum members, and communication would have been simplified if I know that.
Sellers and buyers are always more kind when they speak to someone here :)

I'm a little confused also.
You pulled an auction with a few hours to go because you had displayed an incorrect shipping cost?! I don't get that at all.
Why not just let me and Pip' fight it out, along with whoever else was going to bid on it, and then ship it to the winner at whatever was the correct cost?
There was no need to pull the whole auction on us because someone had questioned your shipping cost, whether we knew it was you or not.

I dont have much of an idea as to what actually happened behind the scenes with this one, but how many people really think that this:

"Your shipping is very excessive - maybe an error? Ebay does not allow that and you risk your feedback, or being banned from Ebay."

...is really all that "intimidating" or "threatening"?  It's a matter-of-fact statement.  Whether the shipping quoted was excessive or not (I have no idea since I didnt look at the auction) Ebay rules are pretty specific about charging too much for shipping.  You can get banned by doing so.  And contacting a seller in the above manner to let them know as such doesnt seem like all that big of a deal to me.  I guess if a person sends this instead:

"Your shipping is very excessive.  If you dont lower it I will contact Ebay and have you banned."

....then to me that has gone over the line and I can see someone getting upset about it.  The way the sentence comes off is threatening.  But I just dont get the same from the original sentence.

This whole mess is extremely confusing and it didnt help that the original poster mentioned a separate issue about a "beloved person TO US ALL" that was also a source of grief.  Very cryptic to say the least and should never have been mentioned simply because all it does is raise more questions of credibilty regarding the original poster IMO.  And unless you are moving to a part of the world where the internet doesnt exist, dying, or going to war, a "goodbye" thread where you spout negatively about another forum member really is bad form.  Kind of petty IMO.

If anything, this should also make it obvious that the Shady Dealers thread shouldnt be used for anything except a "clear and present" danger to the collecting community.  If a possibility exists (and it usually does) that there is a miscommunication or misunderstanding between seller and buyer, potential or otherwise, then use some restraint until you are absolutely sure that the seller is a bad one before posting the auction or ID.

Guys this doesn't even rate in the top 100 most annoying asshats I've had to deal with on Ebay.  What about the moron who got my cellphone number and was calling me at home asking if I liked to suck dicks (members of my face to face gaming group will remember that winner, cause I saved his messages to play for them, entertaining stuff). Someone telling you your shipping is excessive, pshaw.  Anyway:

Tharizdun:  People ask questions, sometimes even stupid questions.  If you feel something is going to happen with them, cancel the bid and/or block the bidder, very simple.

Allison: If you don't like the shipping, don't bid, it's that simple. Hey, that's what keeps me from spending a majority of my cash on ebay anyway, excessive shipping.

Ian screwed up and admitted he shouldn't have listed you in the Shady Dealers thread, things like that happen, maybe both parties (Ian and Tharizdun) can just remove/edit their responses there so it will disappear. Agree with King that the Shady Dealer thread should be only for "clear and present dangers" and not speculation.

Sounds like some outside influences are really driving this rant. I was there a few months ago before NTRPG Con when I was overwhelmed with stuff. Luckily I was able to let loose to a few good Acaeum members and it all worked out...this really is a community and it's why I consider so many people here my personal friends.  Take a deep breath, step back, and calm down.

When I sell something, I list it with a guessed-at shipping rate, which is usually much higher than it will end up being, and I say so in my listing... with one other little thing: if the shipping price is higher, I pay the remainder, but it the actual shipping rate is lower, I refund the difference (and then I do.) When I direct sell something, I get a shipping quote before I give the buyer a final price... eBay doesn't let me do that because I don't know where, or how, the item will be shipped (I guess I could limit it, but then I limit sales, too.)

Anyway, the point is simple -- as a buyer, you can be mean and demand a refund for excessive shipping prices and you can neg the seller for it, too. As a seller, you can do things to prevent it from happening. Which you do depends on how you are.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

The main solution is what Mike said

Badmike wrote:If you don't like the shipping, don't bid, it's that simple.

But I was always astonished that most of US sellers do not know different shipping methods. A lot of them charge outrageous shipping cost only because they don't know that flat rate exists for example.
