Okay, in an effort to post something less controversial than ranking RPGs... does anyone here still own the first set of D&D books they bought 30+ years ago?  I sold off my basic and expert sets along with a slew of modules (had to buy them all back... stupid kid I was), but I did manage to keep two from my youth. These books saw backpack abuse, rain and have more than one food stain inside. But I won't part with them!



Let's see some of your more "well loved" stuff - original ownership is a plus.

The only thing I have left is my original DMG 8th.  Spine is totally split and it's beat, but I agree, I wouldn't part with it.

Of course, it's too trashed to really use either, but that's what my nice 1st or 4th are for!  

Got all 3 of mine (PH DMG MM1) that I used in the late '70s and then in the TSR offices. Got Gary to deface 'em.

I also bought my co-workers' PH's (Moldvay, Cook, couple of others).

Cool stuff! I wrote my name on the inside front cover of my books back then... Eric Pass bought a bunch of my stuff more than a decade ago (he's listed as a contributor here but I've never seen him post in my time) so he's got my name in something he owns now.

These days I don't write in my books... except to make notes in my own homebrew RPG.  But I'd love to have had something written on the inside from my parents - truth is I don't think they really wanted to get me a book with a demon-looking figure on the front

I remember when the Mazes & Monsters crap TV movie put a scare into parents. Some of my friends could no longer play. My mom asked my dad to sit in on a session once... he sat for an hour, smiled and got up. Mom asked him "well... what's it like?". He replied "well, I'd rather they be interested in girls, but it's totaly harmless".  I got a reprieve!

Hell yes.

All my 'originals' are carefully separated from the later copies.  Not only the rulebooks/boxes, but the modules, too.

I have my original white box set (4th) + supplements (various editions), as well as the first PH & DMG.

What would be great would be finding another copy of the third-plus MM from back in the day.  Has "AD&D yellow stripe" on the cover, but "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" on the spine.

I started in '83, and sold everything in '99. But U2, C2, I6 (U2 and I6 played) managed to escape the sell-off.

A friend gave me his (mint) copy of the Basic red box a few months back, B2 being the first mod I went through.
