4e Tomb of Horrors 2 versions?

I just saw the RPGA rewards 4e Tomb of Horrors which is something like 30 pages, but I also saw a UK seller with a 160 page 4e Tomb of Horrors. Is this a readaption of Tomb and Return to the Tomb? Has the big book been released yet?

It doesnt release until July 20th according to WotC's product release calendar.

It just occurred to me that the d20 conversion of Tomb of Horrors is 36 pages. The Tomb of Horrors module uses the same artwork displayed on the Tomb of Horrors novel:

Wonder if they just reworked the d20 conversion for 4E and threw it together as an RPGA reward?

Looks like there will be another collectible hitting Ebay en masse soon. :roll:

I gotta say, the preview promo cover is much more appealing than the official final product cover. Matches the 'feel' of the Hommlet cover too. I prefer dark and dangerous to cartoon having a fight.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

That is the hardcover, due out next week. It is bigger than the original and designed to build a campaign around. This will be in general release, and thus will have no collector value.

The other item is a softcover that was just sent out this week to certain members of WOTC's organizations. It is a pure port of the original module to 4e rules - not a rewrite. This will be very limited, and could have collector value.

Sorry for the bump, but this is worth emphasizing: in terms of collecting, the hardcover coming out this month is mass-market all the way. It's getting big play at places like Amazon and genre sites such as TFAW. It will not be a rare item.

Future resale value will probably hover near cover price for a short time, then dip to 50 to 70 percent of cover price for a couple of years. Beyond that ... hard to say. Too many other unknown factors (a future 5e, for instance) will come into play.

(None of which has stopped me from pre-ordering at Amazon; I'm a sucker for this stuff)

I just can't believe they're using Gary Gygax's name on the cover... Is this adventure likely to bear much relation to the original?

Supposedly it is just a 4e translation of the original adventure. I have a copy and I will probably open it up and see what it is like this afternoon.

I can't see Tomb of Horrors being as alluring in 4e, what with all the hit points and incredible survivability.

But isn't it all just a matter of scale?

Sure, 4e characters begin with more HP and have easier access to healing ... but if a trap is altered to make it twice as hard to disarm and then does three times as much damage as it would have in 1e, then you're back to even. The numbers have just gotten bigger.

I'm speculating, of course, having not seen the ToH hardback. But I'm guessing Wizards is smart enough to make it deadly.

The cover art is pretty good from a technique point of view, but one of my gripes about 3E and 4E is that the artwork is just too realistic.

These are fantasy games. I want a Merry Ole England golf course landscape with monsters that look like they came out of a pulp mag from the 20s.

If I wanted realism, I'd read Balzac. Which I don't :-)
