I've seen topics posted about GREAT deals on items you've bought.  I'd like to start a new topic on "not so sweet deals!"  

As a ground rule, let's keep it light hearted, not bitter!  Just purchases that you can laugh about now.  No calling out who sold it to you, etc.  They don't have to be ridiculously bad deals (although they can be), just things where you said "Damn!" afterwards.

My recent one:
Paid $30 for a Palladium Fantasy RPG core ruleset 1986.  When I think of the nice items I've gotten for $30, this was kind of a tattered book, grey/dingy, etc.  And for $30 it didn't feel like a great deal.  But nostalgia took over, and I couldn't resist!

I think I overpaid by at least a double for an item I don't even care much about, lol.  Wanted to flip through it though and haven't had time.

Not an auction, but I paid almost $200 to get a non-limited Silver Anniversary box set in shrink. Why? I had the money and I wanted it, and if I didn't buy it someone else would have and then I wouldn't have it... oh well. Opportunity cost can be such a whore.

My "bad deal" is ongoing.  I have a fascination with owning a mint copy of every 1st edition hardback (not even going to discuss different printings of the same book, heh).  Not too ambitous until you throw that word "mint" in there.  Since most sellers on ebay can't be bothered with pictures for a $5 to $10 book it seems almost like a random dice roll.  Factor in shipping for a return and in most cases its just not cost effective to bother with anything outside of giving out hits to seller DSRs.

On the plus side, I have an gem/mint collection of all but 3 of the hardbacks.

Oh, and the fact that I am addicted to shrinkwrap.  I think thats an automatic bad deal/fail.  Nostalgia for the loss.

Dudes... if it was in Near Mint condition I wouldn't feel so bad...

I *HATE* it when this happens. The item looks good, but does it have that inset with it? It doesn't say it does and it doesn't say it doesn't. What about the original dice? etc. I've been pretty good lately and NOT bid, but it's oh so hard not to.
