Yes, "entire Dungeons & Dragons" meaning OD&D, AD&D, D&D... Toilet paper cheat sheets up the sleeves and Module-coded D&D arm tatoos not permitted.

Don't forget the full titles, letter, and number of modules; different prints and/or revisions, minis -well, that's your problem

... !! ... !! ...

Ok, ok - if it gets that bad, do it by edition and don't count doubles and triples of an item. And if you've got no help in wiping away the sweat, recall it by OD&D, AD&D, D&D...

There are index cards, anagrams, and other shortcuts

Sure, it's an entire epic where I can recall not only what I was collecting, but why, & whatever else was going on in my life at the time. Ex: getting onto the internet in 1996 & discovering online retailers. I bought enthusiastically for a year, but when I finally found Chainmail I was in the process of breaking up with my wife & hardly looked at it until I moved out later. I think about that every time I see the copy I bought. Maybe I should screw some slut while buying another copy, so I can upgrade the memory.

Nope, no way can I recite from memory every item in my collection. Nor do I have a list or spreadsheet. If something went missing, I might not discover it for months...

Well, I'll be the '1' user defined, as I thought I could remember what I had, as there isn't much beyond the HB 1st ed books, many mags and a few bits and pieces.

That was until I realised I'd bought a minty HB book again a few weeks back that I already owned and didn't realise...  :oops:

Reciting my entire collection would be impossible for me as my memory sucks.
However, if anyone asked about a specific item that is either uncommon, or in some other way stands out from the piles of crap I have then I would probably know if I have a copy.

Probably three fourths of my collection; I could walk right to a specific items resting/storage place after a moment of thought.
But then I have a pretty small collection compared to some here.
No garage or warehouses needed, not even an 8'x8' storage shed in the back yard.
A half dozen bookshelves and about a dozen small boxes does it for me.

TSR Modules would be fairly easy for me … since I have so few of them.
For instance: X-5-7? Nope, they are on my wish list, along with more than half of the entire old school TSR modules listing.

DragonLance modules? Nope... not one copy, and I know that for sure, as I do not collect them at all.
Had a copy of DL1 a while back, listed it twice for 99 cents and never got a bid, so I used it as packing material… sending it to someone here a while back.

Magazines:
I have GOT to make a list (Spreadsheet?) since in the past couple of years, I have started to collect some and I do not know what I have anymore.
However, Dragon magazine Issue 4? Nope, the only Dragon magazine I have is a NM copy of Dragon One... got rid of the others a long time ago.

Judges Guild stuff?
Now THAT stuff I do have a list for, though it needs to be updated as I have acquired a few items since my last update.

I finally cleared out all my brothers furniture last year, and put all my D&D stuff into the spare bedroom. So I might be able to recall everything now it's in one place... maybe...

No. Too many games. I could maybe say what game systems I have, but I doubt it as I have a bunch of one-book or on-off things.

Spreadsheet is the way to go man.  Once you do it you won't go back.  Stops you buying unnecessary duplicates as well.  Besides, with my memory - I need all the help I can get.  :D

(Actually, I probably could manage that one -- except that I'd undoubtably wind up listing a system that I used to own.)

But yeah: one of the first things I have to do when I spot something that I think that I'm looking for is check my lists to see if I already own it (or perhaps previously owned it).

And all my stuff is on a spreadsheet...at least I am sure most of it is. Whenever I go through and update I find stuff I did not know I had or I am missing stuff I was sure I had.

Maybe not recite them all but if you put an item in front of me, I could probably tell you if I have that item/print or not.  The excepting would be magazines - A few lines I'm not sure which issues i'm missing off the top of my head.

....and i agree with that post too. from sight i think i could tell which items i have and which i don't. to me the magazines are actually easier because they are all numbered.

Thanks for everybody's current participation.

Spreadsheets are a great thing as I have one also for D&D. Even with the popular online file storage capability, there's always the chance that you might not be able to access it in a pinch. Can a wallet hold a large inventory list? Certainly, a DM portfolio has room. A player may come literally empty handed other than a set of dice. You never know when you might need to refer to what's in your stash.

Dr. Mentzer, I didn't expect that you would respond, although, I knew your reply before I even posted this  :!:

Indirectly, this poll was posted to find out who's who's in collection size and how well they might know their inventory - wouldn't call it covert, though.

Yes, I can recite all of my D&D items from memory, but I believe I have a much less extensive collection compared to most on this site.
