We publish the Ultimate Unofficial Collector's Guide to D&D (usually, the UUCG). The Acaeum has been one of our many reference sources, and we have spent a lot of time lurking on the forums.

But now, we face a problem that we need your help with. One of our main sources of information (on the few products we don't have in our personal collection) has disappeared. We don't need a lot of information, but do not trust the information online, and confirm everything we include in our books.

If you have any of the following products and would be willing to pull out the product and answer a few questions, please feel free to post here, drop us a PM here, or an email at gamersrule@usa.com and let us know which product(s) you have. If you provide information, you will be credited, and sent a copy of the volume at no charge.

The products we need confirmation on are:

I guess I'll be the voice of dissent - why should we help you profit from the FREE work we've put into researching items for this site (and others)?

The First Quest album and/or cassette.

Seems like two of these guides are being published already. How much of that information was taken from here?

Why haven't some of us heard that information was being gathered from the acaeum to be used in a published product? (Was this approved by anyone here or was there a thread about this already some time in the past?)

Was the acaeum credited in these publications?

If you are just raiding websites for research information without permission and publishing it for sale do you realize that is wrong dont you?

Just checked out your site. Way to go. $15 for years of other peoples work.

I bet a £ to a pinch of shit that the Acaeum receives no credit of its work you've lifted or donation to the site. :roll:

There are very limited circumstances where a simple fact about something can be owned. The descriptive text & photos, sure, but not observed data or the info from anecdotes.

The grumblers here are treading extremely dangerous ground, as anyone researching the history of RPGs now has a real disincentive to acknowledge the Acaeum's contributions at all. Do we want to be a part of history, or forgotten in its dustbin?

I would be concerned that the guys here who have worked for many years compiling information in massive depth are not acknowledged.

Perhaps if dhunton can show what the content of the UUCG is and where the information was taken, it would allay fears or being ripped off?

Obviously, if someone is compiling a history of the game, then they would need to encourage as many to contribute accurately as they can. And I am sure that any/all of the members here would help in that, providing the appropriate acknowledgements are given. I am sure any book or catalogue with a complete history of the books, printings, errors and pictures is published, it would be worth its weight in gold. But if it is available for free here and others take that, publish it and earn a good buck from it...?

So, if it is done 'behind the scenes' or lurking and taking info and images etc without permission, that seems rather off to me.

I am with theHistorian and think some clarity is needed from the UUCG publishers.

Dangerous ground? Stealing research information would get this guy kicked out of any college I know, and beside that it's just freaking wrong to do.

I just think that the acaeum and its members shouldn't be this guys bitch let alone smile and get him coffee while he rapes this site for information.

It's this guys books, not the acaeum , that are most likely to be forgotten in the dustbin of history.

This is just factual information however, so as long as they don't steal actual text or photos from the Acaeum I don't know if there's much that could be done. But I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of their cover shots are lifted from here or somewhere else.

(I should have added that I don't think it's ethical to take the information without asking).

Perhaps they are now going through and replacing the Acaeum site info ... with info contributed from Acaeum members?
