I certainly don't mean to be enabling or dismissive.  Someone I work with just had to get a restraining order against a spouse who was trying to take a child from school recently so that matter came immediately to mind.  If none of them in your school were domestic related, that's a very troubling number.  I really wouldn't have thought there were that many perverts out there!  Relatedly, on the news tonight a prominent radio announcer one county over was arrested on charges of molesting a child under 12.  I guess the problem is bigger than I understood.  

My understanding is that it is not a remedial crime.  The recidivism rate is enormous.  I don't have an issue with capital punishment, particularly when our other option is to feed and cloth some bum for a lifetime or let him out when we know he will molest another child.

Most the time it's just a freak.   In the Dallas/FW area, about once a week there is a news story about some kids walking home from school and some nut in a pickup truck pulling up alongside them and trying to pull one inside.  The fact they are so blatant and don't even try to protect their identity (many are caught because someone gets their liscence number) is pretty disturbing.  I rode my bike to school from 2nd grade on; sadly there is no way in hell I'd let my kid or grandkid walk even a block these days.

I think it has always been there, but the media saturates society now so we hear more about it, especially nationally. When I was growing up here in Michigan we had the Oakland County Child Killer. That MFer was grabbing kids off the street and killing them. They never caught the son of bitch. We used to roam miles and miles on bikes. Things got very scary then.

It's our society. In Japan, kids walk a mile or more to school everyday, through crowds, completely unmolested. I'd be curious to see what happens to skinners in Japan.

So what do you say to your kids when you're in your 40's and they ask "What was the name of your band, Daddy?".

Reminds me of my buddy in high school, the rock and roll stoner. He loved smoking dope, so much so that told me he couldn't wait to have kids, cause it would be a blast to get stoned with them. He also told all of us he'd rather they get stoned with him than go out and get dope somewhere else, so he'd make sure the first time would be with him....

Flash forward 25 years, he had a beautiful daughter who is now in college, and I asked him if he ever followed up on his plan to get stoned with his daughter.  He looked at me like i had grown tentacles and  "Hell no" is too mild for what came out of his mouth.  He refused to admit he'd ever even said the original sentiments until other friends also reminded him of it. Now if we want to really piss him off we ask him if he's gotten his straight-laced oceanographer daughter stoned lately....

The moral is we sometimes do survive growing up so be careful what you say/do because it will come back to haunt you...

I was there with J. and Dave from Witch... Damien fell on Dave during the show and Dave scraped his hand up pretty bad... J. always keeps neosporin and band-aids in his fanny pack... which I find pretty funny.

After the gig Damien was great to talk to... turned out that we had a bunch of mutual friends and acquaintances in NYC. He's a stand up guy I would hang with any time. Him and his band are always welcome to stay at our house when they are on tour. I'll even hope for our kids to have a play date someday...

I bet someday he'll tell his kid all about his adventures in life with pride.

Maybe not pride....kids don't normally want their dad's on Youtube shirtless!

Got to hand it to the guitarists...I think I counted five headers into the drum kit due to crowd surge...those cymbals can hurt.

Been many years since my last SXSW   I went every other year during the 80s...my last year some scrawny kid named Beck made his debut.  Funn stuff.

You gotta give these guys props...with that name, they are never going to make it commercially!!!
