There is a good chance that this is the Bill Sommers who was the third founder of the Metro Detroit Gamers (MDG) who created and ran all those Wintercon and Michicon conventions. He would have been one of the guys that brought TSR into the fold which in turn gave us Inverness, Fazzlewood and Tsjocanth. Could just be a coincidence, but it is a small world as they say. Bill walked away from MDG and moved (out west?) back in the very early 80s. He just passed away in April of this year. The only thing that I need to check is the spelling. Might have been one M in Sommers...

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

*nods* Had thought to ask Marc whether that was part of the lot he was selling for a friend who'd picked up items from all over the place, as well as the game shop he worked at (hence the PotVQ & DG earlier), or whether there was another connection over to Bill.

I ran this campaign with a set of old beat up originals I picked up in a garage sale. There was a time I would have paid the $75 for a usable copy of the whole thing. (This was of course before the collector bug hit me...)

I never understood how anyone could manage to PLAY True Dungeon often enough to JUSTIFY that kind of investment. I have a hard enough time trying to get into one slot a year.

And I did it this year, and it sucked. Mostly because of the True Dungeon enthusiasts.

Some people just want a complete set. You know "collector" types. Found on many strange and obscure websites and forums.

Games can get you through times of no money but money can not get you through times of no games!!

Well, yes--and I certainly understand the collector mentality. It's just that, generally, it's been my experience that that mentality (as it pertains to games) is linked to extensive familiarity with those games...which comes with a lot of play.

I'd suggest that very few non-wargamers collect wargames, for instance. I've never met anyone who collects D&D material but doesn't play. And really diehard collectors (the kind who are willing to drop $500 on a single plastic token!) are usually the most diehard players, as well.

I just don't see how anyone could manage to play enough True Dungeon to GET to that level. Clearly, they CAN, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around it.

I have played it 8 times I think, although I have no interest in collecting complete sets of the tokens many of the people I have adventured with do.

Games can get you through times of no money but money can not get you through times of no games!!

Maybe they run their own, you know, having reached the 9th level, spoken with The Great Hall, and have been given permission to create their own scenarios. It has happened before...

So what you're saying is that, in attaining the ninth level, they have acquired many spells and powers?

I wonder how much the "Graven Eye of Tymir" sells for on EBay...
