Cmon, Martin, LOOK AT THAT GUY.  You just want to punch his pansy ass face in seeing him clutching his arm and whining.  Tell me you'd be ok with him and his yard-parked pickup living on one side, and boat lady on the other.   :P Hell I had my arm in a sling a few years ago and didn't feel the need to drive my fat ass up to my front door and park in the front yard.  Plus, if you watch the video, at the end the guy admits he's parked on his front yard before for short periods of time....yeh, probably every day for the past month, because that walk from the driveway is SO DAMN TOUGH for someone with his "injury" (BTW, if this was me, Killjoy would be telling me what a lazy git I was and I need the exercise anyway). Hell if he did that in my neighborhood the HOA wouldn't even had to get involved...he'd have four flats on his truck about the 10th time he tried that shit.

HOA's aren't communistic, because you choose to abide by their rulings if you choose to live in that neighborhood. Plenty of non-HOA neighborhoods all around if you like to park your truck in the front yard or
dig BBQ pits there.  However, if I'm paying 200k for a house I'd rather not have my neighbor roasting a boar next to his mailbox....

Remember technically also a lot of this stuff falls under city code enforcement and is illegal anyway...for example in my city parking in your yard is a no-no and the city will tow your car anyway, however getting code enforcement to handle this in a reasonable length of time (say, within a month) is difficult.  So an HOA just speeds up the process that would occur anyway should you complain to the city.

And should you think I'm a meanie, the across the street neighbors from Kenya have had a large section of their fence fall down and it's going on a month or so with no repairs....I haven't even lifted the phone to call anyone. Surprised none of the 16 people living there has taken the time to get out a hammer and nails and board that sucker back up by now....sigh...

Sorry Mike - I cannot side with you.  We all know that certain people are going to have cars on blocks in the front yard and I'm okay with a HOA going after them.  But if I'm moving in and want to pull the truck up to the front door (especially with the heat in Texas)  I should be able to do that.  Less than 45 minutes and they hauled his vehicle away.  If he left it on blocks then go get him.  But for Godsakes 45 minutes!!!!  People in Texas need to learn to be neighborly.

Kingofpain89 wrote:I get all the reasons why having an HOA is preferable to not having one.  But a lot of the complaints come from rules they draft up that are put in place without consent of the homeowners and some of them are just downright ridiculous.

Like for instance....being told that you cannot plant flowers in your front yard in a pot.  Has to be in the ground or not at all.  Oh and you cant use plastic pots...decorative or otherwise.  You have to use terra cotta or ceramic pots.

How about not being able to park your pickup truck or SUV in your driveway because it isnt a "luxury" vehicle?  It's a driveway for chrissakes.

And no one is going to tell me that I can't fly the U.S. flag in honor of a relative serving in the military.  Why is it such a big deal if my flagpole is, in someone elses opinion, an eyesore?  Who would have such an opinion?  The only type of people that I can think of are the entitled asshats that that think they are better than everyone else and have to have everything their way or some disgruntled muttonhead that has nothing better to do and feels the need to throw their weight around.

HOA's have way too much power.  Threaten to foreclose on someone's house because they arent mowing their lawn on a regular basis?  Doesnt happen often but even the possibility of them being able to do it is asinine in my opinion.  I've been to your house Mike, and I honestly didnt have any idea that you lived in an area controlled by an HOA.  Now maybe if you lived in Highland Park I could understand people complaining if someone werent mowing their lawn or keeping the weeds under control and they were making $500,000 a year (since that is about what you would have to make per year to live there).

Enough of my bitching....I just think the whole idea of someone else telling me what I can or cant do with my own damn house/property is ludicrous.  :x

Yeh I agree that stuff is idiotic...we had the flag issue in a neighborhood near mine...a couple weren't allowed to fly an American flag because the HOA wouldn't allow it...so guess what happened....they got the stupid HOA members that passed that rule voted out, changed the rule, and now they can fly their flag all they want.  Simple democracy in action!

Believe me if my HOA started getting pissy about the color of my front door or the types of flowers in my pots I'd be all over that nonsense. The problem is no one wants to get involved...your HOA members live in your neighborhood, they start getting all badass, bang on their front door a few times while having your sidearm holstered. Discuss the problem rationally, and if all else fails, get a bunch of neighbors who think like you to get the dumbass booted out.  I've been to these HOA elections and about 10 people show up; shows how much they really care about getting anything done in their neighborhood.

Typical liberal media taking the former president's comments out of context and not reporting on the entirety of what went on.  Here is what really happened:

"Hey Mr. President...catch!" said the aide.
"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back.
"It's just a goddamned piece of paper!", said the aide.
"No it's not you stupid little twit....it's the Constitution!"
"You're a big meanie....why can't you be more like Bill?", the aide pouted.

:P

I've heard a lot of stories about postal carriers that would complain about just about everything but this is ridiculous!

Obviously, the postal delivery person is an idiot. How did the cat even get to his fingers? They should have been on the other side of the door... I mean, you are just sliding pieces of paper through a little slit... not delivering your hand to the "vicious beast." Damn. Another case of "my stupidity is not my fault."

It's baffles me that someone from a homeowners association board here in Texas hasnt been shot by a pissed off homeowner by now.  It still baffles me how shit like this is legal.  :?

Nothing shocks me regarding HOAs. We have them here in MI also and the often the people that run them are control freaks. I am lucky that my sub is pretty good and we have not had these types of problems.

But WTF!!! You can't walk across the street and check on the guy to see if everything is ok.

I don't know, but I think if I saw my neighbor's car on his front lawn, I might go over and check to see if all is ok. But to run and grab a phone to call a tow truck is just plain moronic. You have to wonder about the car-owners state of mind to park a car on his lawn 20 feet from the drive way, but the f...ing moron who called the tow company should get his ass kicked straight out.

The boat lady also has a legitimate complaint. HOA asshat needs a swift kick in the ass for that one, too. HOAs have rules AND rules on how to enforce the rules. The board there is every bit as wrong as the violators.

This is why I tell my kids, "The average person is a complete moron." When I am dead and gone, I tell them, remember my words of wisdom... :D

Hmmm...

Unnamed sources...always a problem for me when I'm reading something like this.

Seems like in the last four years someone would've fessed up to being there by now...sounds like one of those tales everyone would LIKE to be true...but probably isn't.

Now, if they had him on tape ala "Read My Lips...No More New Taxes" (Daddy Bush) or "I did NOT have sex with that woman!" (Bill "Wildman" Clinton), I would be a little more inclinded to believe it. File me under "Very skeptical".

It appears that you are correct.
The story was widely reported (repeated).
I just did some more searching and found the entry on the factcheck.org site.
They raise doubts about the reliability of the person who originated the report and have been unable to independently verify the tale.

http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/d ... ion_a.html

It does sound more like something that Dick Cheney would say.
