I think you guys forget sometimes that I started collecting seriously a little over a year ago.  I have no idea how often things come around, etc.  I know I haven't seen one in a year.

This is part of the SPI line after TSR bought them.  So there are a number of wargame type games branded with both SPI and TSR.  Although their family game section has a lot different type games too.

I am hoping it brings one or two out onto the market.  I thought $200 would buy it.  Then I thought $300 would buy it.  Then I thought, heck, maybe it will require $600-800.  Then all of a sudden 8 times my initial guess didn't get it.  I do wonder if the next one will only even bring $1,000 though.

I put a very high premium on the fact that they were rare enough that some very serious collectors had never seen the prints and pictures of them could not be found online.  I think that premium will be effectively gone if another one comes up now.  If the second underbidder feels the same way.... the next bidder was at $685

On the other hand, if it's really just less than five known or just this one and a sw and none turn up for a few years, that guy just got a huge, huge buy, imo.  It's actually just a couple of hundred dollars a print... if you look at it that way.

Still a surprise, though.  At some point though, other things are equally or more interesting for the money.

I think the keyword there is "print".  I don't think the product itself comes close to justifying the price.  Most people purchasing this are after the cover (similar to Jade Hare) that makes it a rare item.  If another came up, I would expect it to sell for just as much.  It parallels something like the Planescape Sketchbook which for now seems to be holding a high value.

I don't mean to be depressing but....

There are a ton of rares hitting the market all at once and the economy has not recovered.  We have no idea how much might flood the market in the next six months.  

33,000 people ran out of unemployment benefits this week just in NEW JERSEY.

For a cry... google (unemployment benefits expire September )

On a more positive note... they may have just started the bidding to high.  It never gets as much interest from bidders when that happens.
