(forgive me if you are uncomfortable with this - I would consider the Acaeum mature enough to take these on their (admittedly very limited) merits

oh dear - perhaps I'll draw the curtain on this sorry subject.

(Beatles are before my time, and I can,t say they do anything for me I'm afraid - The Stones though, that's a different matter (and they're almost all still alive - which probably comes as something of a shock to themselves

the stones should have quit in 1974 when mick taylor did. they have done nothing of any lasting consequence since that date. in my opinion. having said that, they are no worse than 4th in a listing of the best rock bands 1)beatles 2)zeppelin 3)who 4)stones. feel free to flip the last two if you think that the richards/townsend comparison somehow outweighs the moon-entwistle/watts-wyman rhythm section.

I'm almost with you Bill, except I think they should have made 1981 their farewell tour instead of 1974. True, 1974's "Its Only Rock and Roll" was their last "great" album, and "Black and Blue" was a bit of a lame follow up (only the funk/reggae "Cherry Oh Baby" and "Crazy Mama" have any lasting impact in my brain). I have a lot of fondness for Some Girls, Emotional Rescue & Tattoo You (the soundtrack of my High School years, from entry to graduation), and the sounds of these three are intertwined with my discovery and playing of D&D (nostalgia riff), but everything from Undercover on was completely unneccesary. BTW I feel the same about Bowie....he's an absolute genius but everything after "Let's Dance" is completely forgettable.

Lots of artists began phoning it in during that period - I blame all the cocaine, which makes one think that any dog turd is genius.

Yup. Just checked with wikkip. Canada is in October, US is early November. Not sure if many other countries have them. Basically it appears to be some kind of harvest festival.
