Depends.  He may indeed be the copyright holder for "Balbur's Gate".

It amazes me that people are stupid and/or lazy enough to actually pay money for this crap when it is easily found for free on torrent sites.  :?

Regardless, I reported the turd.

If so, report it please.

The original TLG logo is consistent with a similar certified legit TLG CD-Rom I have, and the two bonus items on the disk are identical to the one I have. However, mine was published in a card sleeve with an adhesive seal and not a jewel case, and mine is a different product of the same time period. My gut instinct is it's legit, and probably relatively rare. Certainly uncommon as they were a small tentative step into digital media.

One of our resident TLG Gurus could confirm. Serl?

For the completist collector of non-TSR ephenera, I'd suggest that's a bargain price for TLG's first early steps into digital media, and in the future, these sorts of things might be akin to things like the TSR matchbooks and early marketing materials.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Yes, there were a few titles that were released as CD-ROMs.  That looks right to me.

What is the infringement here?  It may be something idiotic to sell but I don't see the problem.

I was thinking the same thing.  The seller isnt doing anything wrong by Ebay's standards.  If lazy and incompetent buyers want to fork over money to the nutter that's their problem.

The guy is selling copyrighted material. Whether it was once a free download or he 'lifted' it from some torrent site doesn't make it public domain that he can recopy and sell.

If you don't give a shit, no problem, but it is still someone infringing on copyright.

No he's not.  Read the full description.

Over the past 10 years I have gathered together a list of websites that contain FREE Dungeons and Dragons game material, such as FREE modules, FREE maps, FREE Character Sheets, FREE D&D computer programs and so much more! I have compiled my hours and hours of searching into an easy to use format of over FORTY PAGES of Weblinks, on 1 CD,  that will send you directly to the desired information. There is so much information on here that I dare you to try and look at it all; you can spend DAYS looking at all the information here, and it is all FREE to download! There is a wealth of information available from both pros and gamers like you and I just waiting to be incorporated into your D&D campaign...you just need to know where to look...and once you purchase this listing from me you will!

Here's what you get after purchase:

1 CD-ROM containing the weblink information on a MS Word file. There are hundreds of links to choose from, that are full of very useful content that will take your games to the next level.

It's just a Word document with links to websites.

Who's the copyright holder of the link search?  Google?  Yahoo? Bing?

From the description, it looks like many of the links will be directly to the Wizards of the Coast website where they offer those items for free download.

I don't think it is illegal to sell links telling people where to download free stuff. That's not a breach of copyright.

If you post a picture of your dog on the internet, you can't stop me writing the URL to the picture on pieces of paper and selling the loink to people in the pub.

The guy is not selling PDFs, he's selling information on how to use the internet. That's a well put together sales pitch.

Ah, it's just fraud then and links to sites offering bootleg copies, which makes him part of the bootlegging process.
