It seems when I loaned all of my original modules to my friend he didn't seem to think that keeping them at all, let alone in any reasonable shape, was important. It's not like a complete collection of modules for 1st ed D&D/AD&D including all monochromes would seem like something someone might want back.

Yes, I know it won't be hard to get these all back, but it will run me a few hundred bucks, maybe more.

I'm mostly speechless. I can't imagine being so careless with something someone else had loaned to me. It boggles my mind.

I'd sit him down when he's in a good mood(Saturday morning), and tell him you are disappointed that the collection loaned to him is so rogered (unless his name is Roger!).  Give him some choices.  You could give him what you loaned to him and have him buy back for you the collection in the condition in which it was originally loaned.  Or, you could give him your collection and every time you buy one item back off of eBay, you send him the bill.  Or(and this is the best option for everyone), just sell to him what you loaned him.  Even if you sell at a discount price, you've partially redeemed the friendship, gained funds which can help buy back your collection and taught your friend a valuable lesson. :)

Of course, never loan anything to him ever again. 8)

Speaking of, why don't the guys that own the rights just reprint the Companions items already?   I would expect they still hold the rights, and seeing my old oop stuff sell for $100+ on ebay when it's available would get my greed juices flowing!!!

Good idea!  You going to contact them and make the suggestion?  You could even create a poll asking how many people would buy it and drum up advanced sales.  If the company already knew they'd sell X number of copies right off the bat, they'd realize it would be worth the risk.

You could offer to be their exclusive distributor and take a 10% cut!  Hmmm.  Of course, with eBay now taking a bigger cut than ever, that means in order for it to be worth your while you'd have to take a 25% cut(or more) at which point the company would laugh in your face.  Maybe that's not such a good idea.  Forget I said that.

I bet there's several products out there worth reprints that collectors, or just players, would hop on right away.  I'd personally like a copy of Kobold Hall for example.  It just sounds good for one thing, and I've heard it's a decent adventure.  Sorry to get off topic here.  It's late, and I'm on drugs (legal, of course!) :)

in all my years on ebay etc, that was one of the funniest moments ever. hurt to pay of course, but so much fun.

it only got bettered when we were all at GenCon bidding in person.

Not to worry....if he doesnt spend all of his money in the process of getting here he will be sharing a hotel room with me.  Should be easy enough to "misplace" his wallet.
