Will probably be the biggest $ 50th celebration. The old art part of it its great. Decent card selection also for playability. Most of the sets still caters to Baldurs Gate & more recent editions.

Sold out pretty much instantly

I find this initiative simply silly: wizars celebrates a D&D event with cards from another game? Really??

Wizards owns Magic. They have a couple of DnD sets, special offerings like this and have had DnD crossovers like Strixhaven.

I know that, it still remains a silly idea. I recently read a quotation which fits perfectly our times (apologies if it is not correct 100%, i recall it by memory): "i don't mind if you think we are all stupid, however i could get upset if you talk to me as if i am stupid"... we are now at the first stage, i wonder when Wizards will come out with the second stage...

Hi everyone, the 50th Players Handbook that was released at GenCon looks a lot like the image my FLGS just listed as a pre-order.

Anyone know if the GenCon PHs are marked as special/limited in any fashion?  Got to be right?  Or just 'special' due to the early releaae?  Thanks in advance :)

The 3,000 or so copies sold at Gen Con came with a gold foil Gen Con 2024 50th anniversary sticker, an exclusive d20 die, and a special offer coupon.  There's also a 50th anniversary logo, in gold foil, printed on the back of the book.  This logo was the only "permanent" distinguishing feature, although the Gen Con 2024 sticker could be affixed to the book and is perhaps the only truly unique item.

The printing is listed as: 1st Printing: September 2024

Not sure how this will compare to the initial production books being released or if some of the initial books will also have promotional swag, but I've seen some presale store promotions:

1 poster featuring art from the 2024 Player's Handbook cover – for prominent display in-store
20 d20 with gold numbering and the D&D ampersand – opt-in via event scheduling required, for players who participate in 50th Anniversary Play Series events or as a gift-with-purchase for any of the Core Rulebooks
30 Dungeons & Dragons keychains – opt-in via event scheduling required, gift-with-purchase for any of the Core Rulebooks

Hey DB I’m curious to know how much these went for?

Indeed, I do know.  They were $49.99, $53.49 with tax.

Was it the normal cover version or the alternate?

Normal cover.  The 50th gold foil logo on the back might be a difference, too.  I don't know whether the normal version will have that.

The alternate apparently does indicate the 50th anniversary:

Here is a link to the Dragon's Milk D&D beer. Was able to pick some up at the local Total wine but it was $50 a bottle.

Ouch indeed.  Unfortunately I already have a couple.  Might make a good gift, though.
