His Temple of Elemental Evil art would make a great DMG tribute cover.

The more I've been reading on this new-fangled Intertubez thing, the more I realize that they might use the old covers and just update the trade dress. That would be fine too IMO.

It'll be interesting to see how many oldschoolers decide this is worth their time. I'm seeing petitions to make these available outside of North America, some brick-and-mortar waiting lists and a few speculators cropping up. All anecdotal but that speaks well to a growing enthusiasm.

My first gut reaction was "No way I'll ever buy these!"

But deep down in the depths my subconscious mind where the pavlovian RPG buying part of my self lives, I know I'll probably buy these.

I'll buy them, even though I already have a few good copies of each book. My copies are old eBay versions - would be cool to have new ones (especially if the variant cover is not pure crap). That some piece of the proceeds goes to GGMF seems cool, but doesn't factor into my decision. Ultimately, if it turns out this reprint helps put the book in new hands, super and all the better. If not, I am no worse off.

Believe it or not, I don't even care if it's all some evil plot to win back our goodwill (gasp!) or make money (the horror!), as has beeen suggested elsewhere. :lol:

It is sad.
He was one of my favorite fantasy artists.
Since his name was Keith Parkinson and mine is Keith Parker, my kids used to think I was related to him.

I will definitely be picking the reprints up so that I do not have to cause unnecessary wear and tear on my originals from the seventies. Being as I design 1st Edition AD&D-compatible modules for sale and still play on occasion, my old books get regular use. Also, it feels good to contribute to a memorial for Gygax.

While I applaud the gesture(s) represented by this move by WotC, I want to wait and see the new cover designs and overall production values before I decide whether to purchase them. If they have the glued bindings and shiny overdesigned covers of the 3rd/4th edition books, or the flimsy paper of the 4th edition products, I'll have to pass. No point in spending double market price on books that would just fall apart sooner than my copies from the late '70s... I'm open to the possibility they'll wow us all, though.

Agreed. I can think of no scenario where I'd buy these.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

Maybe, like the miniatures, these'd be a fly-by-night gimmick and shoot up in price after the novelty wore off and the collectors showed an interest.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.
