Big difference between an item in a flea market or even sitting in a comic shop and an auction on E-Bay in terms of market reach and visibility.

That auction started at $8, but would likely have finished at $200-$300 had it run its course.

Does this completely excuse the seller from doing a little bit of research on what they are selling?  No, that is why I have a lot less sympathy for the dolt who puts a $2.50 price sticker on an expensive collectable in his comic shop or yard sale.

This reminds me of the guy in "There Will Be Blood" buying oil land from the unsuspecting yokels.  Unscrupulous buyer, absolutely.

A transaction like this on Ebay is generally considered unscrupulous because they have absolutely cheated the seller out of money.  And done so while other bidders have been waiting to bid.

In most cases that you mention, the seller may or may not ever sell the item (because it may not be found) and the seller only ever has one potential buyer at a time.  On Ebay the situation is completely different because the unscupulous buyer has tricked the seller into something that has cheated the seller.

To make an analogy to the flea market, it is as if a group of interested buyers were all at the table asking to buy the item, then one person turns around and kicks all the other potential buyers in the balls.  While they are writhing in pain, he then makes an offer, grabs the item out of the sellers hand, throws some money at him and runs away.

If the BIN price had been at least $200+ or if the buyer didn't know the value of the item, then I probably wouldn't think it was unscrupulous but I am doubtful this was the case.

I am always surprised when I come across a TSR game I hadn't heard of, but I guess they made heaps of board games. Anyone know how many or have a list of just the board games?
