Wow! Is that one of those 20p coins without the date on it?  :D

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

On the news, the mother of the slain teen asked, "What were they thinking?"  I think "rap music" would be a good answer.  Another good answer would be, "Don't snitch."  Another goods answer would be, "Ooooo, I've got to pull up my pants."

The worst is yet to come. They will get away with killing that kid and get a confidence boost and do it again...
All the while our tax dollars seep down the void of inner city poverty and gang violence. Wow, how far we have come...

Didn't really want to start a thread (or know where it should go) but out of interest, is the 3.5 DMG II needed beyond the 3.5 DMG? Is it an improvement on mistakes, increasing knowledge and info and do you need the 1st one to make sense of this one?

Or would anyone recommend the Rules Compendium for a looksee through first on everything?

Got the chance to pick one up and I'm thinking of making the step from 1st ed at last...

Would that be the copy with the pending offer on it that I just picked up for £6 then?

Never missed a copy of the 3.5 DMG II.  It's not an improvement so much as "something else to buy."

Hmmm, thanks, thought it may be. A bit like UA, WSG etc for 1st ed then. A bit of a cash cow for TSR/WotC...  :)

Yes, except that Unearthed Arcana completely changed and ultimately shipwrecked the 1st Edition rules set.

We used to call that the "Mickey Mouse book".

We just ignored it.

I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Sweet score on that chess board. Damn I wish I were able to buy whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it...

That's a good example of the relative gaming value of the 3.5 Player's Handbook II and the Dungeon Master's Guide II.

A basic rule in my own long-running 3.5 campaign is that any book outside of the Player's Handbook is to be ignored unless the DM has given his OK to a particular idea.

So, for instance, if a player brings in a prestige class or feat from one of the 3.5 character class books it is illegal until I declare it legal.  There are a few good ideas hidden amidst the crap in those books.

That said, integrating all of the WOTC 3.5 hardback books into a campaign as written would have less destructive impact on a 3.5 game than Unearthed Arcana had on AD&D.

I missed a nearby convention (Archon in St. Louis) this weekend.  Going by information on their website, the dealer room looked skimpy on gaming stuff, and I could not find a schedule.

Maybe I can set a different goal and try to pick up women at a bishonen convention:

(Potentially NSFW considering it makes reference to yaoi and similar topics. :D )

Random thought.

Why do they show Poker on the sports channels? It really bugs me. What is sporting about it?

Commentator:

'Jones is about to pick up a card. OMG. His hand is frozen and expression on agony on his face. It looks like a serious injury to his index finger. ...... they've got him on the stretcher. Doctor is massaging the injured muscle......'

The same reason why we all know more about Alaskan crab fishing than we possibly should.

Sports and competition get all mixed up.  Is golf a sport?  Is bowling a sport?  Pool and billiards?

Card games like poker are competitions.  ESPN2 has broadcast Magic: The Gathering tournaments in the past.  I think a pen-and-paper roleplaying game would be more fun to watch.

You were warned.  :)

Yaoi attracts women . . . at least, I think they are women.   8O

I was at the Wizards of the Coast Headquarters in Seattle's University District when ESPN2 was covering the Magic World Championships.  There was a huge network truck parked outside the builing, connected to it like an alien probe.

Our group played a "drop" in the Battletech simulator pods (I was too busy finding clever or funny things on the intercom to concentrate on mech fighting) and then watched the match replayed on the screen in the nextdoor juice bar.

Seriously - juice bar.
