I'd stand by that. My brother and I (I feel) are beyond reconciliation. 3 years ago, it was fine, but now it doesn't particularly bother me if I never saw or spoke to him again..

Didn't realize I was jesting at actual wound, Kingofpain.

I can see why this Phelps guy would make you angry in a whole different way than me.

Owww.  Whether your King of Pain moniker has anything to do with your past, it certainly could apply.  Sad.  I hope your reconciliation was healing.

LOL about the moniker....that is just because its my favorite song by the best damn band ever.     As for the reconciliation, it took my mother passing away for us to really make an effort to communicate again.  She forgave him for his shortcomings and begged him to reach out to my brother and I.  It took awhile but we get along fairly well now.  Neither of us are the same people we used to be which probably makes more difference than anything.

These type of people really disgust me.  They have twisted the Bible's meanings around to suit their needs and prey upon the weak willed.  I believe in "what comes around, goes around" and I think very soon, some or all of these people are going to get what is coming to them.  They are most likely going to piss off someone with nothing to lose who is going to end their miserable existence.

Actually, considering the hatred and bile they create, I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. People get taken out for a helluva lot less every day.

Personally I think the entire country is getting buried pretty deep in bile and hate lately and every day I'm surprised that something hasn't happend.

Random people on the fringe do crazy things all of the time.  Fortunately, not everyone

Committing a violent act is uncommon, but hating is easy.  The wheels of hatred are hard to stop once they get rolling.

"bile and hate" is usually defined as "what they do."

My opinions are reasonable.  It's them.

Gonna try, but the track record in this area for free giveaways is not good....usually ends up a line around the block, lots of pissed off people, and lots of really annoying customer  behavior (going by the free breakfast Denny's offers every year, which manages to attract the worst trash in the city all in one spot at one time).  And to top it off it's going to be 104 degrees today. Still, I have my orange shirt (!) ready to go, I might drive by and see what the crowd looks like....

Very OT, but somewhat related to paying for gaming products:

Yesterday (August 2) I paid my CapitalOne credit card balance in full.

Today I logged on again to make sure that the payment reflected in my balance.

I found an additional $8.15 balance sitting there.  Apparently, account charges were added to my account on August 2 after I paid in full.

I checked my monthly statement and found that my next bill would be due on August 27.

I called the CapitalOne customer service line and got a person (first time that has happened) and they told me that my payment in full on August 2, did not count!

Because new monthly charges were added after my payment, I would have to pay again before the 27th or I would be assessed a late fee and a hit to my credit.  If I hadn't gone back to check...purely for the joy of seeing a zero balance...I would have suffered a double hit to my account.

The whole thing screams for a class action lawsuit.    Imagine how many other people they've done this to.

FYI

Standard Operating Procedure for these clowns. Despite the hit to my credit, I have recently cancelled almost all my credit cards, because I don't want the greedy bastards the satisfaction of even being able to say I'm a customer of theirs.

FWIW, when I didn't use several cards for a long period of time, some tried to start charging me a "nonuse" fee or somesuch nonsense, others cancelled the cards outright, and some others slashed my credit limit (one in particular went from $15,000 to FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS in response to paying off the balance and letting it sit unused for several months).

Seriously, credit cards are a bad, bad deal.  If you are able to dump them, you should.

Okay, since we're talking about credit cards, I have a bank story.

Short version> NEVER, EVER do ANYTHING with Wells Fargo.  They are HORRIBLE!

Long Version> A couple of months ago the wife needed a new car, so we bought one.  The dealership offered us a good interest rate so we let them do the financing.  Which, as it turns out was through Wells Fargo.

So as is usual we're told to expect a payment book through the mail for the car loan.  It doesn't come.  The due date for the first payment gets close, we call Wells Fargo.  Payment book is coming, they say.

It doesn't come.  Due date comes so we call them and tell them, make the first payment directly and set up auto debit from our checking account (which we planned on doing anyway).

A few days later we get a letter saying that we missed the first payment and will be charged $10.00 for the late payment.

Called to complain.  They do not remove the $10 charge.

Next month, another notice that says our payment couldn't be processed.   Call again, talk to another trained monkey to find they didn't set the auto-debit up correctly.  Go through the process to get auto-debit set up again.  (At least no late charge this time)

Next two months, repeat process.  :x

My sainted, extraordinarily patient wife handled these calls the last three times.  But I will be calling them if they send another notice, and I will not be so patient if I have to talk to them.

Understand, I'm a laid back guy normally, and I have to deal with the public all day too so I know it can be a tough job.  But I've had it, and having been on the receiving end for years I have extensive experience on how to be a real irritating jerk on a customer service phone line.   Somebody is not going to be happy to get my call, believe me.  And neither is their supervisor, or THEIR supervisor...

I could have told you to avoid Wells Fargo at all costs. I hate them.

My bank, Wachovia, just got taken over by them.  I was fine until now.  :?

The borrower is servant to the lender.

That's all you need to know about banks and how customers are treated.

Only using my credit card to build good credit history.

I keep my balance low and pay it off.

I was astonished at the bad faith implicit in today's caper.
