Thanks for the update Frank.  Not surprising that you disallowed the Helm of Brilliance.  I read over that a few times thinking to myself...."damn this is one powerful mutha!  No way will Frank let anyone have this so I'm not even going to bother to ask."  Besides, who wants to be at ground zero when the wearer of one of those fails his saving throw versus a magical fire attack?  Kablooey!

Frank and all others:

The dinner is still on.  Wednesday night 8 pm at the Rathskeller.  We have a total of 27 who have indicated they will be in attendance.

Frank,

I hope Empyrea's been stocking up on dust of disappearance, as the elves are likely to bathe in it when the fighting starts - too afraid of fighting the enemy face to face.

Stephen, we'll have a large cup of mead waiting for you: whilst we watch the elves running away with the women and children.

NEWS UPDATE

Woodstown, autumn 234 JR: Two weeks after the fall of Gorvale, a phalanx of green dragons has strafed the western outskirts of this castle city, resulting in moderate casualties and widespread alarum. Prince Jason has dispatched a plea for reinforcements from the capital, noting several sightings of dragons over the south-central woodlands. The Empyreal Third Army (led by Prince Endryth) is at an unknown location in the southeastern woods and is presumed unavailable for this task.

Footnote: On the Royal Family

Prince Jason of Woodstown is of course one of the six sons of the late King John Asperman III. John IV was firstborn and thus ascended the throne [at Empyrea]; next came Merrin "of the sea" in residence at Dorin, Harl "the strong" of Northending, and Byron "the explorer" in Outland. Jason "of the wood" and Charles "the brave" of Hydell [though sometimes disparaged as "the weak"] were born several years later than the others. The three sons of John IV (also Princes) are his eldest son John V (heir apparent) at Johnstown, Andri "of the elves" at Gorvale, and Endryth "the wanderer", currently commanding the Third Army as noted above.

Mighty Red Team brothers:  braid you beards and light the brands in your nostrils!

Prob'ly gonna be the last post before heading south, gods willing.

Please tell me he is not bringing an arctic shrew to the game.  That would just be cruel and unusual punishment...for Mike and the shrew.  And is the beard braiding and lighting of the nostril brands some sort of Nordic ritual or is that just something you Northeasterners do for fun?

Lighting beards, nose and ear hairs is how the dwarves get their own gamey smell out of their nostrils..... :D

Hey Guys,

For those participating in Al's Game Sunday:  AL would like to move the Game to 3pm to accommodate one of the players.  Would like your feedback here on this.  I told him, I thought most would have no problem with this since most will want to hit the exhibit hall in morning one more time.  Please post your responses here.

hi guys...crazy hectic busy here with a million things. first time i have looked on the forum in a while.

frank: i asked martin to post above for you. you finish the gygax game at 2 (DMing), so would 3 be good? that way, it gives everyone else a chance to flitter the morning away and have some lunch, all refreshed and ready for a good afternoon game.

if anyone has trouble with that, let me know asap, but i assume it will be ok? i know bill (strato) has to sadly leave for a 3pm flight.

i have decided that only the DM and the players are going to have a signed copy of this. strato will also get a copy, as he was a player til the last minute and i think thats only fair.

could y'all ensure that we have: DM guide, few PHBs, MM, fiend folio and a DM screen and of course, everyone have some dice and a pencil/eraser handy. we might want a battle mat and a batch of mini's too, if someone can wangle it.

many thanks and i really look forward to seeing y'all again wednesday!

best

Al

The time's good for me as well.  As to where we're going to play:  if there are not table in the hotels (like last year) my employer has provide a conference room that we can use.  It's about a 6 block walk from the convention center.  So we have a plan A (I will check this out with the hotels a little closer to Gencon) and a Plan B.

I'm DMing at the Tower of Gygax from noon to 2 on Sunday.

Can make anything thereafter (and am willing to drop out if the timing doesn't work).

BULLETIN! FLASH!

Woodstown, early Winter 234 JR: The dragons are gone!

In an abrupt turnaround for this once-quiet woodland outpost in southern Empyrea, an entire army of evil beings, enjoying massive aerial support by more than two dozen green dragons, has been routed. And to the astonishment of all concerned, those responsible for this glorious victory are Dwarves.

Details are unclear at this writing, but apparently the dwarves of Krazandol had already tunneled to a point near Woodstown for reasons unknown. After they realized the situation, the utter devastation of the city and its populace apparently immanent, the dwarves came to the rescue. Several thousand troops emerged from covert locations in close proximity to the evil forces, heavily armed and accompanied by light siege equipment for surface-to-air missile fire. Their overwhelming onslaught destroyed thousands of enemy ground troops and many dragons, the latter quickly fleeing southward.

This now seems to have been the largest military engagement to occur in more than a century. It is believed that the dwarves suffered casulaties in the hundreds, though no numbers are as yet confirmed. (All the dragon remains have been declared Military Salvage by Prince Jason of Woodstown, and would-be looters have been warned off, under penalty of execution or imprisonment. There is also other news, unconfirmed as yet, of a powerful leader of these and other evil dragons, a being named Vortaxion; if true, this could be an important lead for the Empyreal forces.)

The Empyreal Third Army (led by Prince Endryth) is said to be engaging yet another massive group of evil forces in the southeastern woods, in the region of the Lonely Mountain (80+ miles north of Woodstown and a similar distance southwest of HIllbrook). However, no accurate news is currently available from that front.

Red Team Friday 2-6 (AdderMcOne, Blackmoor, Bombadil, CS Hobbies, Killjoy, Lawrenson, NetRodent, Prufrock, Yaya)

Green Team Saturday 10-2 (BadMike, Bracton, DBartman, Kingofpain, Mad Hermit, Rabbit_67, Smarmy, Stratochamp)

Both subject to extremely minor twiddles (like pushing either one back 15-30 minutes to allow for logistic).

I'm onstage at the auction both days in the evenings, but have no other Fri/Sat commitments.

I'm in.  I want to have a last look around the dealer's room and pick up any goodies that didn't sell in the Auction/Consignment store, so I'll be busy early. I can bring as many 1E rulebooks as I can, along with battle mat, dice, minis and anything else. Looks like we are taking the Kia Sportage so might have a little room. I have quite a few boxes full of stuff for the Auction/consignment store (over 200items so far) so space might be at a premium. If nothing else, last year we were able to purchase some cut rate rulebooks out of the consignment store for about five bucks each.

Just checked out a weather forecast for next week in Indy and it looks like it is going to be about ten degrees cooler than last year.  :D   Last year it was in the low to mid 90's.  This year it looks like the average temperature is going to be about 85 F.

It also mentioned some chance for scattered thunderstorms Monday - Thursday.  I know we wont be outside a whole lot but it might not be a bad idea to bring an umbrella just in case.  Nothing worse than wet gamer stink.  :P
